King Arthur: Knight's Tale is a tactical RPG with strategy elements. The game was developed by the Hungarian studio NeocoreGames, whose portfolio includes such productions as The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing series and Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr. The game is another part of the King Arthur cycle which was launched in 2009.
Plot
The hero of King Arthur: Knight's Tale is Mordred. The protagonist managed to kill King Arthur, but he himself also suffered a fatal blow. The Lady of the Lake transferred the ruler to the mystical Avalon, without anticipating that his pain would change him beyond recognition. The king has led a dark army that makes Avalon a land of nightmares.
The Lady of the Lake has no other choice but to bring Mordred back to life, too, and to give him the task of stopping Arthur once and for all. The fate of both the protagonist and the whole of Avalon already depends on the decisions we make during the game.
Game mechanics
In King Arthur: Knight's Tale the action is shown from the isometric view. The core of the game are missions pushing the story forward and numerous side tasks, which we choose from the extensive world map. They take us to various dark locations, such as dense forests, moors or dark tunnels.
When we go through them, we often have to fight our enemies; we talk about more than fifty kinds of regular adversaries as well as ten much more powerful bosses. The battles with them take place in turn-based mode, and during them, we need to demonstrate our tactical sense by placing members of our team appropriately apart and skilfully juggling their abilities.
As we progress, Mordred is joined by other heroes (there are over thirty of them); each of them represents one of six professions and possesses individual skills that we develop in the course of the adventure. Interestingly, we can both take them on our own missions and give them separate tasks.
We should be careful here, because their death on the battlefield is permanent, and the treatment of their wounds is an extremely time-consuming process. In addition, warriors often get into conflicts with each other and also watch our actions closely, so that if we fall into their hands, they can leave our team and even turn against us.
In addition, while we play, we have to improve the Camelot Castle, which is our command centre (the structures built within it provide us with access to various improvements). In addition, we often make decisions of global importance; it is only up to us whether we decide to help the people or rule with a firm hand, ignoring their needs.
After completing the main plot, we can try our hand at special challenges to test our skills; these include various procedurally generated tasks and battles with powerful bosses. In return for their completion we get access to valuable prizes.
