Langrisser I & II is a compilation of remakes of the first two parts of a turn-based strategy game series started in 1991, enriched with elements of jRPG. The compilation was developed by Chara-ani Corporation and published by NIS America, the company responsible for the franchise.
Plot
The games included in the set take us on a journey to a fantasy world, in which the forces of good and evil fight. In the first part of the series, the players take on the role of Prince Ledin, who must defend the kingdom of Baldea against the plots of the Dalsis Empire. In the second part, we take control of the hero named Elwin, and our task is to resolve the conflict between two opposing factions and face the forces of darkness. It is worth noting that in Langrisser II we make decisions that determine how the story will end.
Mechanics
Langrisser games were divided into scenarios, during which we learn more about the plot and fight fierce battles against enemy armies. In each of them, the creators set a specific tasks, such as protecting a particular person, defeating all opponents or eliminating an enemy leader.
Battles take place in turn-based mode, and we play as commanders, leading armies of several dozen people, over which we do not have direct control. Depending on the commander's class, cavalry, infantry and special water and air units can be placed under his commands, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
As they progress, heroes gain experience points and increasingly powerful abilities, and their combat potential is increased by special items. It should be remembered that the death of a hero on the battlefield is permanent.
Technical aspects
Compared to the originals, the games included in Langrisser I & II set are distinguished primarily by their new audiovisuals. In addition, the devs have introduced a number of improvements to adapt the mechanics to modern standards.
