Lethal Company is a co-op survival game developed by Zeekerss, an indie creator.
Plot
Lethal Company is set during the seemingly optimistic future, after humanity has colonized space. Nevertheless, over the years humans have abandoned some globes, leaving behind industrial complexes they've built there. We play as scrappers working for the titular company, tasked with collecting valuable items from abandoned moons. The job is dangerous and we must meet the company-mandated quota if we're to survive.
Mechanics
Lethal Company is a first-person game. The player must traverse space aboard their spaceship, landing on various moons, looting its surfaces. After landing, there are two ways we can approach our task. If we so desire, we can stay on the ship, watch the radar, monitor the situation and coordinate our team's actions, but personally taking part in the looting is much more exciting.
We must traverse industrial complexes, overrun by various terrifying creatures. Since the areas get even more dangerous after dark, we must be careful and work quickly to get our loot on board the ship before the night falls. If we successfully make it out, we can spend our earned money on useful tools, like flashlights, shovels, walkie-talkies, stun grenades and various cosmetics, both for our scavenger and the ship. If we're brave, we can also scan encountered creatures to fill out the bestiary.
It's not easy to survive, as our means of defense are very limited. As if that wasn't enough, if we fail to meet the company's quota, we get thrown out of the airlock. Once we die, we must start all over. The areas are all procedurally generated, making the game feel much more fresh.
Game modes
Although Lethal Company is playable solo, it only reaches its full potential in co-op for four people. The game supports voice chat (affected by the current situation and player proximity), requiring communication and coordination to succeed.
Technical aspects
Lethal Company makes use of an old-school comic book-like artstyle, resembling a PlayStation 2 game.
