Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a full-fledged remake of an iconic stealth game from 2004, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It was developed and published by Konami, the owners of the franchise.
Plot
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set during an alternate version of the Cold War, in the 1960s Soviet Union. The game's protagonist, Naked Snake, is a military operative sent into Russia to extract Sokolov - a genius scientist and weapons designer working on the Shagohod tank, a weapon capable of firing nuclear missiles - out of the country.
Though the operation initially seems to succeed, things get complicated quickly. Snake ends up stranded in the jungle, drawn into a massive intrigue, the outcome of which can possibly heat up the Cold War and influence the entire world. He's not alone on his quest, as he's supported by various allies.
Mechanics
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater makes use of the third-person perspective. The game is heavily inspired by the original release, but its mechanics have been refreshed and adapted to modern standards. When completing missions we must be stealthy, hide behind trees, in bushes, tall grass or underwater. We can also use camouflage, choosing different kinds depending on the surroundings. In addition to hostile humans we'll also face wildlife; enemies can be dispatched with firearms, gadgets, traps or in melee combat.
The game also features some survival elements. Snake can suffer injuries to different parts of his body, which he must treat in an appropriate manner before they get worse. He must also eat to regain stamina, though gathered food can end up spoiling if kept in the inventory for too long.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater have been thoroughly refreshed and are extremely impressive; the detailed environments and vegetation are especially appealing. The voice actors from the original game make their return here as well.
