Monster Hunter: Wilds is an action RPG representing the best-selling series launched in 2004. The game was developed and released by Capcom, the company overseeing the brand.
Plot
The action of Monster Hunter: Wilds takes place in a fantasy universe, or more precisely – in the so-called Forbidden Lands. During the game we take on the role of one of the titular hunters, leading a group investigating this territory. Our task is to uncover the mysteries of this place, as well as to defend its inhabitants from threats posed by various monsters.
Gameplay
In Monster Hunter: Wilds we view the action from a third person perspective (TPP). The game provides us with a vast world, where we can find both a deserted, sandy desert, as well as a vibrant savannah or a chilling forest. Although we can explore these locations on foot, a better solution is to gallop through them on a mount or jump on the back of one of the winged creatures and cover large distances in the air.
The core of the game are tasks in which we hunt specific monsters. For each such mission, we need to prepare properly, equipping ourselves with the right weapon (melee or ranged) and armor, as well as other useful items that increase our chances of success. In order to acquire the necessary gear, we need to gather resources and based on them, produce the equipment we need at a given moment. The main source of raw materials are the beasts we defeat, although some resources can also be purchased from traders or found in the locations we visit.
During the hunts we can encounter specimens known from previous games of the series, as well as a number of completely new ones. The so-called Apex Predators are also among them. They are at the top of the food chain in a given region and pose the greatest challenge for us.
The clashes with creatures are dynamic, and during them we must demonstrate agility and reflexes, being in constant motion and carefully looking for gaps in the defense of adversaries and their potential weak points. The novelty in the game is the Focus Mode, in which a crosshair appears on the screen, allowing us to better aim our attacks. For example, we can use Focus Mode to target wounds of our enemies. Moreover, there is nothing to prevent us from hiring additional hunters who will actively support us in the fight.
In addition to the beasts, capricious and violent weather conditions can also pose a threat to our character. They include sandstorms or hailstorms, as well as other hazards posed by the environment, such as quicksand. During breaks from our voyages, we end up in villages where we can regenerate our depleted strength and prepare for the next challenges. This last option is also somewhat possible in the field - we can set up a camp at any time or light a barbecue to prepare a meal that boosts certain statistics.
