Exploring and learning about the expansive world, challenging arcade battles with enemies and bosses and numerous references to pop culture are the main elements of the game developed by Koba Studio and published by Team17, known for such games as The Escapist, Blasphemous and Monster Sanctuary.
Plot
In the alternative 1980s, a console called Narita One is created and the first dedicated game, Narita Boy, is released. Both are extremely popular, so much so that within a few weeks Narita Boy becomes the best-selling game in history, delighting critics and gamers alike. At the same time, the digital and real worlds are merged in the production's binary code, opening the way for Him - a mysterious entity that erases the creator's memories. He also brings hosts of sinister Stallions to the Digital Kingdom world, causing the surveillance programme to activate the Narita Boy protocols. Taking on the role of a digital hero, you will fight a hordes of enemies to save the world.
Mechanics
We take on the role of Narita, who wields a special sword and travels through pixel and futuristic worlds from the Digital Kingdom dimension. The world is full of enemies and powerful bosses. Fortunately, Narita is ready for it and with the help of his sword can get rid of enemies in a spectacular way. These include a variety of opponents, whose movement and attack patterns are worth learning in order to eliminate them more effectively and not become their victim.
Technical aspects
Narita Boy is a 2D side-scroller. It is maintained in a retro style referring to games from the 70s and 80s with dynamic and detailed animations. The game features an electronic soundtrack, which includes the use of synthesisers.
