Oninaki

Oninaki is an action RPG released by Square Enix. The game was developed by Tokyo RPG Factory, a team whose portfolio includes titles such as I am Setsuna and Lost Sphear.

Plot

Oninaki takes us to a fantasy world where every soul awaits reincarnation after death. However, in order for it to start a new life, the ties between it and its previous life must first be cut and its loved ones cannot afford to mourn. Otherwise, the souls become the Lost and are wandering through the dangerous underworlds.

The main character of the game is Kagachi - one of the Observers with the ability to move between the land of the living and the dead, whose task is to keep order in the first one and to help the Lost.

Mechanics

In Oninaki the action is shown from a bird's eye view. In the course of the game, we travel through various locations, and take on tasks when conducting conversations with NPC living in them. In many of them there are also numerous adversaries waiting for us, which we eliminate using both a wide range of melee weapons and magical abilities. The latter are bestowed on us by rescued souls as a token of gratitude for the help they have received.

Unlike in Tokyo RPG Factor's earlier works, the battles take place in real time, and during the clashes it is necessary to show reflexes and dexterity in order to effectively avoid enemy attacks and execute quick counter-attacks.

Technical aspects

Oninaki features three-dimensional graphics adopting a colorful, manga style, which in terms of quality presents a level similar to the previous achievements of the developers.
