Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Extraction (originally known as Rainbow Six Quarantine) is a follow-up to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series, this time focusing on co-op between three players trying to eliminate a deadly parasite of unknown origin. Game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal studio.
Campaign
In the game we play as one of the soldiers sent on missions to get information about the parasite of unknown origin. In the game world, a meteorite crashed on Earth, which started a cycle of strange events; Rainbow Six agents were sent to combat the threat. This situation started a series of strange events; Rainbow Six agents were sent to deal with the threat. Three years later, the parasite reappears, constantly evolving and mutating and posing an even greater threat, overwhelming even the Special Forces Operators.
In Extraction we won't find a full-fledged single-player campaign, but during the game we complete a special Codex that contains additional information about the game world and the mysterious parasite.
Game mechanics
R6 Extraction is a game with a different atmosphere from its predecessors. This time it is a tactical shooter enriched with survival horror elements, because the opponent we have to fight is an alien parasite mutating into different forms.
In total, the game offers 12 maps with procedurally generated challenges to face. In order to do so, we take on the role of one of 18 operators, already appearing in the previous installment of the series - Rainbow Six: Siege. Among them are Ela, Fink, Vigil and Doc. Each is characterized by unique abilities.
The alien parasite mutates and takes various forms. The game implements 10 different archetypes that define the Archaic's abilities. The player has to learn how to deal with each type of opponent, because some can explode on death, thus injuring the Operator, others fight from close range, and others shoot from a distance. In addition, on the maps grows a black growth that affects the ability to move - it slows down operators and increases the speed of opponents. These spots can be destroyed with explosives or shots from firearms.
Each map is divided into three sections and at the end of each of them we have the opportunity to evacuate. The player must properly assess the risk and his possibilities, because moving to the next stage means more difficult opponents. A greater challenge and running out of resources can lead to failure before the team reaches the escape point. Tasks are assigned to sections randomly from the pool of all available tasks.
If a player's character dies during a mission, he/she receives an MIA status. It will block the possibility of using the given operator for some time. However, we still have the opportunity to recover the soldier: in the next attempt he can become one of the mission objectives. If we rescue the Operator and bring him to the evacuation point, we will be able to use him in the next approach, although his life points will be limited at the start.
Co-op
Rainbow Six: Extraction focuses on cooperation. The fight against the parasite can be carried out together with two other players, although the game adapts if we want to play in two or even solo.
