Repo Man PC
Repo Man is a Polish open-world RPG that combines cyberpunk with urban fantasy elements in the fictional colonial city of San Alma. As Arthur Newstead, you collect debts by searching for debtors and making difficult moral decisions.
Repo Manis a grim Polish RPG in the convention of a first-person debt collector simulator with a dash of urban fantasy. The game was created by an independent Polish studio Achara.
Plot
You play as Arthur Newstead, a man returning to his hometown. Said return is not of his own choosing: your easy corporate life has come to an end, due to inheriting a massive debt from your lost father.
These are the circumstances under which you arrive to San Alma - a city of the near future, long past its best days. Nevertheless, it's home to plenty of residents, and thus, plenty of debts. Arthur therefore starts working as a detective-collector, searching for debtors and milking them for all what they're worth: from the destitute poor people, to the grandest local celebrities.
In the meantime, he can plan vengeance on the people who ruined his life and try to uncover the mystery of his father's disappearance. San Alma, however, is a dangerous place, full of thugs, conspirators, and even traces of the occult.
Mechanics
Repo Man is an open-world RPG with a first-person perspective (FPP). As in other, similar titles, the gameplay revolves around exploring various areas, talking to NPCs and completing quests. The player roams the streets and rooftops of San Alma, looking for debtors in their homes, shady bars and secret hideaways.
The game features a combat system, though Arthur is not a skilled fighter. You need to show off your precision and reflexes - as well as the art of running away in a panic - to survive.
The game's most important mechanic are negotiations with the debtors and the decisions you make during them. It's up to the player how they'll approach each case. In pursuit of his goals, Arthur can intimidate, seduce, deceive or even rob his targets. The available actions are represented by a deck of cards collected throughout the game.
The player will be faced with numerous moral dilemmas as well. Will you follow the law, and thus take away family heirlooms or tools a poor debtor needs to make money? Will you ruin the lives of honest citizens in the name of stopping the corrupt elites? Or, perhaps, you'd rather become hated by all, ruthlessly exploiting everyone you come across? The choice is up to you.
Repo Man has an economic system as well. You can take over not only individual items or apartments, but even entire buildings. When doing so, you must assess the value of possessions and real estate in order to separate valuables from worthless junk. Acquired valuables can then be sold, either officially, or on your own.
Technical aspects
Repo Man was developed on the Unreal Engine 5, letting the developers create realistic, three-dimensional graphics. The Polish devs mixed typical cyberpunk motifs with Art Nouveau aesthetics (a French style from the turn of the 19th and 20th century). The soundtrack enhances the game's atmosphere as well, combining symphonic and ethnic music with electronic sounds (such as synthwave).
