Subject 13

Subject 13 is a science-fiction adventure game, full of logic puzzles that require the player to manipulate environment and use the laws of physics. It was developed by Microids, known mostly for the Syberia series. The studio is led by Paul Cuisset, the creator of the legendary Flashback, as well as such games as Cruise for a Corpse, Fade To Black, Moto Racer, Darkstone and the rather poorly received Amy. The production process was partially funded by the fans who backed the game’s Kickstarter campaign.

In the game, we assume the role of a physics professor, Franklin Fargo, who leads a rather grim life after his wife’s death, for which he blames himself. She died during an assault the target of which was Fargo himself. One day, the protagonist is kidnapped by a secret organization and wakes up in an underground research station. Referred to as the eponymous Subject 13, Fargo realizes that he fell victim to some unusual experiment. His only chance to save his life is to escape the mysterious complex.

The gameplay boils down to exploration of subsequent 3D locations in search of a means of escape, as well as interacting with objects in the environment. The players will have to solve lots of logic puzzles by using all kinds of physics’ laws and by manipulating the setting. As we progress in the story, the protagonist uncovers elements of the plot that explain his kidnapping and answer a number of questions concerning his past.
