Directive 8020 is the sixth main installment in the horror series The Dark Pictures Anthology, and the premiere episode of its second season. This action-adventure game with stealth elements was developed by Supermassive Games, a studio specializing in this genre, whose portfolio includes projects such as Until Dawn and The Quarry.
Plot
Directive 8020 offers us a grim vision of the future in which the Earth becomes unsuitable for life. Humanity thus begins a race against time, and the search for a new home leads it to Tau Ceti f, located 12 light years away from the blue planet. A colonization ship - Cassiopeia - is sent to the location, however, things do not go as planned for its crew. The ship crashes on the planet's surface, and those who survive the disaster quickly realize that they are being hunted by a mysterious, alien organism capable of changing shape and taking on the appearance of its victims.
We control an astronaut in the game (actress Lashana Lynch plays this role), who must fight a real battle for survival and ensure her colleagues have the chance to survive and safely return home. How the fate of the Cassiopeia ship's crew will unfold largely depends on our actions and the choices we make.
Gameplay
In Directive 8020 we view the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the gamee we discover gloomy locations, engage in conversations with characters, and push the plot forward. The game often forces us to make difficult, morally ambiguous decisions. Additionally, the protagonist can attack enemies with improvised weapons or hide from them and act silently (which is usually the better solution).
Game modes
Directive 8020 allows to play alone or in co-op mode for up to five people. We can play with other players locally or over the Internet.
Engine
Directive 8020 is powered by Unreal Engine 5.
