The Sinking City 2

The Sinking City 2 is the second installment of the series of action adventure games with RPG and survival horror elements, launched in 2019 and inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft. The authors are the Ukrainian studio Frogwares, also known for adapting books about Sherlock Holmes.

Plot

The Sinking City 2 doesn't continue the story from its predecessor. The story presented in the game constitutes a separate, standalone tale.

The game takes us to an alternative version of the United States from the 1920s, and more precisely - to the fictional town of Arkham. After the flood hit the town, it was taken over by supernatural beings from the sea depths, known as Mi-go, as well as mad cultists. During the game, we play as a hero who ends up in Arkham to solve the mystery of the events taking place here.

Gameplay

In The Sinking City 2 we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). Adventure leads us through a labyrinth of flooded streets and interiors of old buildings. The game world is partially open, and individual locations are transformed due to the rising level of flood waters.

While traversing Arkham, we must be vigilant, as it is teeming with dangers. On our path stand both hostile people and all sorts of grotesque creatures. We eliminate enemies using primarily firearms. There are plenty of resources to be found, but our backpack has its limits, so we often have to decide which items we will take with us and which we will abandon.

The core of the story are the quests pushing the plot forward. Apart from them, various side missions are waiting to be completed. Unlike the first part, which emphasized investigations, this time the main focus is on sequences straight from survival horror games. Investigations, during which we gain valuable information and solve puzzles, have been reduced to the role of optional activities.

Technology

The Sinking City 2 is based on Unreal Engine 5 and uses its benefits, including the Lumen system for dynamic lighting, Nanite technology for advanced object geometry, and the Metahuman tool for generating realistic character models.
