Unmemory is an original adventure game created as an interactive novel filled with riddles. The game was developed by an independent team of Patrones y Escondites and published by Plug in Digital. The development of this project was possible, among other things, thanks to the successful Kickstarter fundraising.
Plot
The action of Unmemory was set in the 1990s. The game tells the story of a person who is tracking down the man who murdered his girlfriend, a member of a band of lady thieves. The difficulty of locating the murderer is compounded by the fact that he suffers from a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. A mysterious stranger quickly appears around him and offers him his help in discovering the secrets of his past. However, this is not selfless aid, and the price he will pay for it can be high.
Mechanics
The gameplay in Unmemory is about reading an extensive journal which is the key to discovering the identity of the murderer and solving the puzzles it contains. The riddles require us to manipulate the interactive objects presented on the following pages of the book, listen to the sound recordings and carefully look at the images contained in it. Guidance to help solve them can be found both in numerous texts and in other puzzles. In this way, as we move forward, we discover further elements of the plot puzzle and move on to the next chapters, of which a total of eight are included here, and thus help the protagonist to gradually recover the lost memories.
Technical aspects
Unmemory has economical, minimalistic graphics. The journal that we read during the game resembles a simple website with a white background and black text; it is only enhanced by the small size of the media, like videos or interactive objects.
