BattleBit Remastered, which debuted in early access on Steam in mid-June, was quite a success. Inspired by Battlefield, the online shooter, in which up to 254 people face off against each other on a single map, attracted more than 3 million players in just a few weeks. Is such high interest related to the poor reception of the latest installment of the FPS series from Electronic Arts?

BattleBit developers are rooting for Battlefield

The r/pcgaming subreddit hosted an Ask Me Anything event over the weekend, in which one of the developers answered questions from the fans. One gamer was curious if the developers of the recently popular shooter thought Electronic Arts could learn something from them. The developer of BattleBit responded as follows:

"We are newcomers in this field, the developers [of Battlefield - editor's note] probably know this better than we do. What happened in the last few years was not their [EA's - ed.] fault. I think they could still create an absolutely stunning Battlefield, if they had the time and freedom to do so."

We're talking primarily about Battlefield 2042, which at launch did not delight the fans - the PC version has an average rating of 2.1/10 based on several thousand user notes on Metacritic. Interestingly, not long ago one of the developers of the game stated that it had no chance of being a great title at the time of its debut. EA, nevertheless, is still trying and regularly releasing patches and new content in the form of seasons to the game.

In addition, in the context of Battlefield 2042 the creator of BattleBit said:

"I would never state that we do some things better, and that our success is due to someone else's misfortune. Our goal has always been to create a cool game that we ourselves would enjoy playing."

Development plans for the popular shooter

In the Ask Me Anything we also learned a lot of interesting things about the future of BattleBit.

  1. The developers still plan to support Easy Anti-Cheat and SteamDeck users - so you can expect better optimization on Valve's portable console.
  2. BattleBit will also receive, among other things, new weapons. Related to this will be a revision of the progression system.
  3. All roles in the game except medics - who are most often chosen by players due to their advantage in gaining levels - will be strengthened.
  4. The developers are still working on the implementation of FACEIT Anti-Cheat into the game.
  5. BattleBit will be moddable to some extent, but there are no plans for full Steam Workshop support.
  6. Although the developers are not working on full controller support (by too few buttons compared to the game's numerous shortcuts), they do not rule out the appearance of the game on consoles in the future.

The developers discuss the planned novelties in detail, including a new game mode and maps, in the video below.

Recall that BattleBit Remastered is currently available exclusively on Steam. The game is expected to spend roughly two years in early access.
