Concord Shooter Could Be Sony's Next PC Game With PSN Requirement
Sony keeps putting its foot down and pushing PSN accounts on PC. Concord is also likely to join the list of titles with such a requirement. We also learned the game's PS Store prices.
UPDATE
Sony revealed prices for Concord on the PlayStation Store. The standard edition of the online shooter by Firewalk costs $39.99. In turn, for the digital deluxe edition, you have to pay $59.99. This second one includes, among others, 16 character skins and 3-day early access. We are still waiting for the game card to appear on Steam.
The basic version is priced at the same level as Helldivers 2. The editors of GamesIndustry.biz suggest that this is another example of changes in Sony's approach to live-service games. Game services need a constant influx of players and moving away from the typical price for AAA games is expected to significantly help with this.
Original news (June 5rd)
During the most recent State of Play event, Sony presented a full trailer and gameplay extracts from the game Concord. The reception of the title wasn't very positive, which isn't surprising. Players in the comments simply labeled it as an inferior copy of Overwatch, and additionally, significantly delayed, as the market has long been saturated with hero shooters.
As if that wasn't enough, the latest information published by a well-known industry insider - billbil-kun - will probably further discourage the PC community from the game. He reported that Concord will join the list of titles that will require setting up a PlayStation Network account on PC.
This decision shouldn't surprise anyone, after all, other recently announced PC ports from Sony - God of War: Ragnarok and Until Dawn - also have the same requirement. In this matter, we're also talking about a multiplayer game, so it might seem more reasonable, but still, the case of Helldivers 2 proved that you can do things differently.
This is unlikely to improve Concord's sales, especially considering that it will probably be unavailable for purchase in over a hundred countries due to the requirement. So the future of game doesn't look promising.
Concord will be released on August 23, 2024, on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) and PS5. However, from tomorrow the game will be available for pre-order.
