Digital Foundry Chose 10 Visually Best Games of 2023
Digital Foundry has published a list of the most visually impressive games of the past year. The most notable was Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, described as the heir to Crysis.
December is traditionally a period of various summaries. One of them was prepared by Digital Foundry, publishing material with a selection of the ten most graphically impressive games of the passing year.
The editors did not prepare a list with numbers from one to ten. Instead, the first seven productions were given in random order:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Resident Evil 4
- RoboCop: Rogue City
- Final Fantasy XVI
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
It is worth noting the presence of RoboCop: Rogue City. The game had to earn it with a perfect recreation of the movie's atmosphere and world style. According to Digital Foundry, the work of Teyon is the most beautiful game of those powered by Unreal Engine 5 so far, taking full advantage of the capabilities of this technology.
Top 3 most beautiful games of 2023 according to Digital Foundry
Meanwhile, the top three prettiest games of the past year have been given in specific order.
3. Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in 2020, but in April this year the game received tge visually stunning RT Overdrive mode with a more advanced version of ray tracing.
2. Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 impresses with its level of detail and lighting technology. On top of that, the impressive engine here has been combined with excellent art design.
1. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
In turn Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora impressed Digital Foundry not only with the level of detail and technology (including impressive ray tracing), but also with how convincing and natural the locations created by the devs are. There is no problem here with the artificiality of the environment, which is evident in many other open-world productions.
Digital Foundry editors had a big problem in choosing the most beautiful game of the year between Alan Wake 2 and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but in the end they put their money on the latter, as technologically it is simply more impressive. Ubisoft's project is even described as a successor to Crysis, as the beautiful graphics were achieved largely through systems and simulations, rather than just hand-designing individual elements.
