Doom Rebuilt Using 1992 Game's 'Bible'; Check out Big Changes [Update]
Doom: Fall of Tei Tenga is a mod recreating the original vision of the first gam in the iconic FPS series, according to a 1992 documentary.
UPDATE:
The author of the mod has given us permission to host a mirror to his project.
"Bible" is unlikely to be the first word the average gamer associates with Doom. However, a Doom bible does exist and served as the basis for the Doom: Fall of Tei Tenga mod.
Doom Bible in a nutshell
Doom Bible is, of course, not some holy text, except perhaps for the biggest fans of the series. Before the first game was released, developer Tom Hall compiled a document discussing the details of Attack of the Attackers (yes, that was the original title of Doom).
However, id Software retained little from this version (not even the creator, who left the studio before the release of Doom). The game as envisioned by Tom Hall remained exclusively on paper for nearly three decades. Fans tried to recreate it in mods, but with poor success.
Doom leaves Mars
Perhaps D boi94 (a. CoomSlayer15) - creator of the weapon pack BD: Kickass Edition - will have more luck. Later this year, the modder plans to release a full version of Doom: Fall of Tei Tenga, a project based precisely on the Doom Bible. The impatient can check out the mod in the recently released shareware version (containing the first chapter) after downloading it from ModDB.
The differences can already be seen in the storyline (for example, in the fact that there is a story at all, as some sassy users could point out). Instead of Mars, we end up on the titular planet Tei Tenga. On top of that, not alone, because Doom: Fall of Tei Tenga features four playable characters (John, Dimitri, Thi and Lorelei), each with different stats and - the horror! - story. Several NPCs also appear in the mod.
What's more, the project adds nw enemies and slightly modifies weapons (introducing, among other things, a new variant of the iconic BFG), as well as renames chapters.
