Dragon Age: The Veilguard Isn't Out Yet, but the Internet Is Already Flooded With Game's Fanfics Starring an Old Necromancer
There's a nut for every bolt, especially if one is a magician with considerable life experience.
A decade without any new material can completely alienate fans, as demonstrated by the Dragon Age community. Until last month, news about the fourth installment being developed by BioWare was hard to come by, which contrary to appearances, stimulated the imagination of players to the limit. Everyone wanted to know how the fate of the Inquisition would unfold and what would ultimately happen to the Dread Wolf.
The downpour in the form of announcements and gameplay fragments couldn't stop the wave of fandom. On the contrary, people are now creating more than ever - only this time with the participation of new companions.
Necromancer loves the most
There is still some time left until the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game tag on the fanfiction platform Archive of Our Own (AO3) has already exceeded one hundred stories. This is a significant achievement, particularly considering that many of these stories involve romances between the protagonist and one of the companions - which we haven't had the chance to officially get to know.
The most popular of the characters presented in the trailer is Emmrich, a slightly elderly necromancer whom BioWare introduced a few years ago in one of the stories in Tevinter Nights. Despite his considerable age for a companion, many fans are looking forward to the prospect of a romance with the mage; his stories make up just over 20 percent of the tag.
Happy ending for the Inquisitor?
Fanfics portraying the relationship between Rook and Lucanis, a member of the Antivan Crows, are just as widespread. Nonetheless, the majority of Veilguard on AO3 focuses on the future of Inquisitor Lavellan and Solas, who were once one of the most popular couples in the third installment of the series.
However, it's challenging to ensure a happy ending for the main character of the Inquisition, as the most popular additional tag for fanfics is "Angst." Currently, the catalog consists of 103 fanfics and we expect this number to only increase.
