Fan Fixes 5500 Voice Lines in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
A fan of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines released a mod that improves the quality of dialogue lines in this iconic vampire RPG.
We are still waiting for new news about the continuation of the cult RPG with the vampire Masquerade. Yes, the devs are publishing further posts about the game, but we haven't seen any fresh gameplay materials since the end of January. In the meantime (perhaps out of boredom) a certain fan of Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines took on a risky task: refreshing over 5500 dialogue lines from the first installment of the series.
The Reddit user's TheAudioService project is straightforward: the user has created a mod to enhance the subpar quality through methods such as sound correction and upsampling (via PC Gamer). He didn't use tools relying on artificial intelligence algorithms for this. And, of course, he didn't record any lines.
I've fixed problems with changing recording situations between sessions, volume changes between lines, resonance issues, compression issues, [and] frequency issues.
The modder has also created a video that allows for comparing the refreshed sound with the original. The effect was appreciated by one of the alleged voice actors from the original.
TheAudioService also has several theories about why the sound quality in Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines was noticeably lacking in some dialogue aspects, sometimes even changing during one scene. Although the original developers appeared to be using the same microphone, the spoken lines may have been recorded in different locations.
