Liquidators Expedition 14 in No Man’s Sky is available for the next few weeks, offering plenty of exciting rewards, including new Chitin Flight Pack. Some players encounter difficulties with the Metamorphosis milestone in the second phase, and we're here to help. Read on to learn how to crush a vile grub to spawn a Brood Mother and how this can assist with Infestation tasks throughout every phase of this Expedition.
How to Crush a Vile Grub in NMS
Phase 2 Metamorphosis milestone tasks you with crushing a vile grub. These creepy crawlies can be found on any world plagued by Vile Broods. To check for their presence, simply hover over a planet while in space, scan it, and look for the description that says: ‘Vile Brood Detected’.
Once on an infested world, use your Visor to spot a Juicy Grub. It will appear as a red icon with a larva. You'll need the Haz-Mat Gauntlet (obtained by completing the Infestation Alpha milestone from the phase 1) to interact with and pick it up.
Now open your inventory and crush the bug. Be prepared for an immediate battle with the Brood Mother that will spawn right after. Once it’s defeated, you’ll receive a notification that the milestone is complete. Don’t forget to claim your rewards in the Expedition tab. For this quest, you'll receive Personal Forcefield Plans, a Supreme Hazard Protection Upgrade, and 256 Runaway Mould.
It’s important to note that simply killing the grub with your weapon won’t complete the milestone. You must crush it in your inventory to trigger a Brood Mother encounter. This tip is especially useful for players struggling with the ‘Purge the Site’ Infestation milestones in each phase of Expedition 14. If you're having trouble spawning the Brood Mother, locate and crush a Juicy Grub. You don’t need to defeat the boss from this site; any location on the same planet will work.
Another challenging task in the Liquidators Expedition is recording an Apex Predator, which we cover in a separate guide.
