Minecraft Players Protest Against Mob Voting [Update: Interest Rising]
The next vote for a new Minecraft mob is approaching. However, many players do not intend to participate in this year's Mob Vote, demanding that the action be discontinued.
Update
Interest in the petition remains at a high level. In one day, the number of signatures rose to 310,000. The originators of the action announced, that on October 15, the day when the results of the vote for the new mob are announced, they will organize a a special stream, during which they will comment on the situation in real time. They still hope that the developers will take into account their objections and requests.
Original news (October 9)
Microsoft has been continuously holding a vote since 2017, with players choosing one new thing that will appear in Minecraft. However, many fans are fed up with taking part in Mob Vote, which greatly divides the game's community. Last week, the most frustrated fans launched a petition on the issue.
Hundreds of thousands of players don't want to vote
Change.org saw a petition that directly targets the developers of Minecraft. It has already been signed by more than 160,000 people who do not want another Mob Vote to be organized.
"The Mob Vote generates engagement by tearing the community apart, leaving fantastic ideas on the cutting room floor, and teasing content that will never be seen in the game. (...) Many have expressed their discontent with the Mob Vote in the past, with fan favorites like the Moobloom not making it into the game, and with content creators mobilizing their fanbases to vote for the least popular option for the joke of screwing over the other voters. This shows that the mob vote is inherently flawed."
What do the fans want instead of voting for mobs? That Microsoft should add three new mobs to the game each year and stop dividing the community by holding another Mob Vote. The creator of the petition points out that since modders who, after revealing designs for three mobs in a few days, are able to add them to the game, developers would be all the more capable of doing so.
Voting history
As I mentioned above, voting for new mobs has been organized within Minecraft Live since 2017. On two occasions, it involved updates to biomes, not creatures. It seems that these editions of Minecraft Live were the best option for the community, as biomes that didn't even win votes were later enhanced with promised new content anyway.
Fans were very divided by Mob Votes, which took place in 2020. To this day, many players regret that instead of the cute yellow Moobloom, a glowing squid won.
In the last vote, the victor was Sniffer, a large creature that digs seeds out of the ground. However, other proposals were also interesting and could diversify the gameplay - Tuff Golems were to, a bit like Endermans, carry various objects, and the hide-and-seek game-loving Rascal would bring the players a reward for finding him.
Minecraft Live 2023
This year's vote for mob to be added to Minecraft, is scheduled to take place on October 13 at Minecrat.net, on the game's special server and in its launcher. This time the candidates are realistic creatures, as players choose between a crab, penguin and armadillo. The results are to be announced on Sunday, October 15.
There is no doubt that if Mob Vote takes place this year, it will once again divide the Minecraft community, while adding just one new mob to the game. In the comments under the video even fans encouraging the vote criticize the developers and want them to simply put all three creatures in the game. Perhaps the petition to stop the action will change something in this regard. If you are also unhappy with Mob Vote, you can sign the petition here.
