New Action RPG Looks Just Too Good. Devs Respond to Suggestions From Players That Alkahest May Be Another The Day Before
The Alhahest trailer delighted gamers, but some fans became suspicious of the project. Fears that we are getting ready for a recap of The Day Before have been answered by one of the developers.
Game trailers can evoke strong emotions - although not always the ones that the developers were hoping for. Especially when it's a trailer for a new game in the style of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, on which the title looks too well.
Interaction trailer
Alkahest was revealed on June 26 as a first-person action game inspired by the spin-off Heroes of Might and Magic, the Czech RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and the Dishonored series. The focus on interacting with the environment was borrowed from the first one (of course, at a level closer to modern standards; after all, DMoM&M was released almost 18 years ago).
The game's developers also promised that it wouldn't have procedurally generated levels or artificially lengthened levels. Add the quite impressive graphics in the trailer, and it's no wonder that the material aroused as much admiration as doubts.
The Day Before for another time?
Many people immediately began to suspect that the trailer has nothing to do with the actual game. Some Internet users even accused that Alkahest is another "fake" game in style infamous The Day Before. In particular, when one of them carried out a brief inquiry into the purported Cypriot studio and observed that the domain alkahestgame.com had been registered with a Russian email address, and the majority of the team isn't active on the project's Discord channel.
However, one of the developers (Cloud Prince) immediately commented on these allegations. An external company, a "local Cypriot team with British roots," is to be responsible for the game's marketing - including setting up the domain. At least that's what the developers thought, while the studio promised to investigate the matter.
Regarding other comments:
- most of the 42-person team speaks Greek or Turkish, hence their modest activity on Discord;
- the lack of a dedicated page for Push Out studio is due both to the young age of the team (founded a year ago) and the lack of active recruitment. The studio doesn't see the need to set up a company domain, at least for now;
- perhaps most importantly – the trailer of Alkahest was developed on the game's engine, but some of the camera shots and animations were prepared with the trailer in mind. The real, "raw" gameplay will be available in a few months, long before the game is released. Gameplay tests have also been planned.
The developers also confirmed the localization of Alkahest in 11 languages.
Half-open world full of secrets
The developer's information doesn't alleviate all concerns, although it must be admitted that they are currently more communicative than the creators of The Day Before.
Developers also have the advantage of not overdoing it with promises for now.The world of Alkahest is to be only "semi-open," with isolated locations. This information is displayed on the Steam game card:
We strive to create a highly interactive and believable world with semi open-world locations, packed with secrets and adventure. With branching gameplay options, inspired by Dishonored, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and other genre-defining games.
Of course, as Cloud Prince himself admitted, the players' concerns are understandable, since - as he put it - "the state of the industry is tragic, and players are being deceived left and right." We can only hope that when we see Alkahest in its "raw" state in a few months and play it for ourselves in "playtests," the game will still look as promising as it does in the trailer.
Alkahest doesn't have a release date yet.
