New Anno is Being Made - Indicated by Funding for Ubisoft From Germany
It looks like Ubisoft is developing a new game from the well-known economic strategy game series Anno. This is indicated by a large subsidy of one of the company's divisions by the German government.
Ubisoft is currently developing a number of games to be released in the near future. Later this year, for example, players will get their hands on titles like Assassin's Creed: Mirage or Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. It seems that in addition to these and several other games work may also be underway on the next game in the Anno series.
As reported by Games Wirtschaft, Ubisoft's German studio Blue Byte will soon receive financial support from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (German: BMWK). The funding is high - Ubisoft's subsidiary is to get almost 5.7 million euros.
It is very possible that the money will be used precisely for the development of the new Anno. A project called "Placeholder" is to be subsidized, which:
" (...) gives players a multi-faceted world that encourages exploration and can be expanded and redesigned at will. (...) [The project is to support - ed. note] the latest rendering features and 3D technology and is to be optimized for all platforms. The project is expected to reach players around the world and offer a single-player campaign and a multiplayer mode."
In Anno games we manage our own colony, so the funding may apply to the next part of the series. It is worth noting at the same time that money will be received by Ubisoft Blue Byte, which created, among others Anno 2205 or Anno 1800.
Nevertheless, we have no official information about the upcoming game in this economic strategy series, so it can't be ruled out that the money from the German government will be used, for example, for the new The Settlers. Ubisoft Blue Byte is also responsible for this series - although in this case the latest installment was released just a few months ago, and turned out to be a flop.
Recall that Anno 1800 - the latest game in the series - debuted on PCs in early 2019 and on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S a few months ago. Given this gap of more than four years, it is possible that the new installment is already in advanced development. The question is, what setting have the devs chose this time.
