Not Just Technical Problems. Last Epoch Players Criticize Difficulty. Still, Interest is High
Despite technical problems and the campaign's low difficulty level - which, however, can be increased by reaching for a hidden item in the game - the action RPG Last Epoch is conquering Steam.
Last Epoch, the latest Steam hit that recently left Early Access, attracts real crowds. At the time of this message being published, more than 261,000 players are playing the hack'n'slash game developed by Eleventh Hour Games studio, and this number is increasing by the hour (via SteamDB).
Technical issues and complaints about the difficulty
Unfortunately, the servers remain paralyzed because of the game's popularity, leading to numerous problems that players consistently complain about online.
Last Epoch on Steam received mixed reviews due to its poor technical condition and a large influx of players for which the developers were unprepared.
- Despite being praised by nearly everyone for its enjoyable gameplay loop, this title has only received 62% positive reviews on Valve's platform in the last 30 days.
- Apart from the poor condition of the servers, this hack'n'slash is criticized by some players for being too easy - at least when it comes to the standard campaign. One player claims that for the last two hours of the story mode, he controlled and fought using only the mouse - without needing to use skills assigned to keys or create a complex character build.

Some players on the Steam forum and certain industry media have noticed that there's a method to increase the difficulty of the Last Epoch campaign, starting from its early stages (via PCGamesN). To increase the challenge, you need special boots, specifically the Cursed Veteran Boots.
These twisted shoes can be found in the first location called Old Road. In one of the caves where the bear lives, you must destroy the stalagmites behind which a hidden path lies. On the way, you have to defeat two more bears, and the last one should "drop" boots for masochists.
How do Cursed Veteran Boots work? By wearing them, we deal (along with our party members) 50% to 75% less damage and receive 100% to 200% more damage - depending on the area we are in. As if that weren't enough, by wearing these weakening shoes, we consciously give up the opportunity to replace them with an item that offers useful bonuses.
It has to be admitted that this is an intriguing approach to raising the level of difficulty, even though it relies solely on statistics.
Do you know that the Cursed Veteran Boots were added to the game in version 1.0? In early access, instead of using them, we could choose the "Masochist" difficulty level, which was ultimately abandoned.
Last Epoch was released in its full version on February 21. The game was released exclusively on PC.
