Stardew Valley vs Graveyard Keeper Comparison
This article presents a comparison of Stardew Valley and Graveyard Keeper. Find out which game is better.
Stardew Valley and Graveyard Keeper are two different games - no doubt about it. However, it is also impossible not to notice some similarities. Therefore, many players wonder whether, since they liked one production, they will be interested in the other. While others are trying to decide whether to purchase one of these games. In this article we juxtapose the two titles, which may help you make a decision – read about Stardew Valley vs Graveyard Keeper.
Atmosphere
Let's start our comparison with the atmosphere, as I'm sure many of you are interested in it. If you are looking for a relaxing and cheerful gameplay, then you should definitely choose Stardew Valley. It is a title that allows you to unwind. It doesn't force you to do anything and gives you plenty of time to do everything. However, it is worth mentioning that some side activities are limited to a specific season, which many players do not like.
In Graveyard Keeper, it often feels like time is running out (although there is no deadline for completing the game). The day is too short to accomplish everything, especially at the beginning, and some important characters appear only once a week. In addition, a dark atmosphere awaits you – occultism, corpses and other not-so-pleasant things.
Of course, the above does not 100% define these games. Stardew Valley manages to touch on serious issues such as alcoholism and homelessness, and there is no shortage of humour in Graveyard Keeper.
Plot
The game's atmosphere is quite closely connected to the storyline. If you are looking for a game with a clearly defined goal, which you pursue for most of the gameplay, then your choice should be Graveyard Keeper. This title places a strong emphasis on the story it tells, with all the player's actions heading in a very specific direction - towards the finale.
Stardew Valley, of course, sets various goals for the player, but it is something that looms far on the horizon. It doesn't move the story forward, because this is a game in which we create our own goal. It is the player who establishes the next objectives, which may correspond to the guidelines provided by the game (or may not).
Graphics
Graphically, both games present a similar level. If you like a more pixelated experience, you will like Stardew Valley better. Graveyard Keeper has slightly more even edges. Both games, however, have their own charm.
It's worth mentioning that the colour palette in both titles is slightly different. SV offers a rather bright and colourful experience. GK, on the other hand, prefers subdued colours, a bit greyed out.
Romance
Stardew Valley is for you if you are looking for a partner. This game offers the possibility of a relationship, preceded by getting to know and trying to win the favor of the second half. Graveyard Keeper is a game about working and making money. It doesn't have much room for romance (your goal is to return to your love).
Crafting and Farming
If you want a game that allows you to grow plants in peace, then Stardew Valley should be your choice. This production has a more developed farming aspect (although still not Farming Simulator level).
Graveyard Keeper, on the other hand, focuses on diverse and more complex crafting. You will find here a lot of workshops, where you can make various things in order to later create other products from them (of course, this is not Factorio). You will even experience technology trees in the game.
Length of the game
Stardew Valley is longer. This is confirmed by the data of the How Long to Beat portal. Completing the main story in SV is about 52 hours, Graveyard Keeper offers gameplay for about 45 hours. However, if we take into account all side activities, the production about a farmer offers gameplay for more than 160 hours, while Graveyard Keeper simulator for "only" 71.
It is worth noting that in the case of GK there are 3 paid expansions offering additional hours of fun each. SV does not have additional paid DLC.
Price
If we consider the full price of both games, Stardew Valley is cheaper. At the time of writing this, SV costs 13.99 euros on Steam, while the price of Graveyard Keeper is 16.79 euros (not including paid DLC).
Mods
If you are a fan of customizing the game to your liking with mods, then you should definitely take an interest in Stardew Valley. This game has a much more vibrant modding community than Graveyard Keeper. It allows you to customize many visual aspects and gameplay elements to your preferences. In addition, modders have added a lot of new content.
Multiplayer
If you want to play together with another person, then choose Stardew Valley. Graveyard Keeper does not have a multiplayer mode. You can read more about it here: Is Graveyard Keeper Multiplayer or Co-op.
Summary
Both games have quite a few things that they differ in. Depending on whether you like a clearly defined plot and goal or rather a sandbox and choosing your own path, a different title will appeal to you. If you are looking for relaxation, then Stardew Valley is definitely a better choice, if you want dark atmosphere then Graveyard Keeper is for you. However, if you can only choose one game, we recommend SV.
