Super Earth in Helldivers 2 Is Our World That Went Through a Lot. Map From Devs Reveals Plenty of Exciting Lore
Some time ago, the developers of Helldivers 2 published a map of its world on the game's Discord. It reveals some interesting details about the title's universe.
Helldivers 2, a cooperative shooter and a sequel to the 2015 game, was released at the beginning of February and quickly captured the hearts of many players. It accomplished this primarily through engaging gameplay, although not necessarily through the story, which initially seems rather banal. The story follows a team of soldiers from Super Earth defending humanity's planets against alien civilizations, including massive bugs, while also promoting the ideals of freedom, peace, and democracy throughout the hostile galaxy.
However, the universe of the game is more way more complex. At least that's what the map of Super Earth suggests, which was published some time ago on Discord by Johan Pilestedt, CEO of the Arrowhead studio, the developers of Helldivers 2. There it is:
War wastelands and climate disaster
Above all, the map in question appears to challenge the theories that suggest Super Earth is not our Earth. It seems to be the same planet, but with mega-cities and a capital in place of the real Stockholm, and some significant changes in certain territories.
As a result of the "Last Great War," Ireland and Great Britain turned into wastelands, as well as large areas of Canada, Greenland, and Russia. This suggests that the conflict was about fighting for resources hidden under the ice and permafrost of the planet's northern regions.
In South America, Africa, and the Arctic, we have areas defined as closed. The descriptions suggest that these are a type of nature reserves, housing the remaining rainforests and a seed bank in Svalbard, which aligns with the real Svalbard Global Seed Vault in our world. On Super Earth, we will also find the Egyptian Pyramids.
The world we are fighting for
So it seems that things aren't rosy on Super Earth. The people living there not only have to deal with the climate disaster and protect what remains of the planet's "green lungs" at all costs, but also a significant part of their world seems to have been swept away during the war.
However, it gives an interesting perspective on what players are really fighting for in Helldivers 2 and potentially creates scope for further adventures. It will definitely be intriguing to witness the upcoming missions set on Super Earth, where we may have to face new threats.
