maybe she goes lead and rescues that dead ass category. For all I know, Michelle Williams and Lily Gladstone were supporting without any big scene at all. Gaga can possibly do it with a bigger film and weaker contenders
Lady Gaga is Magic.
September 25, 2024 at 2:36 pm #1205963689Agreed. Kids’ Choice Awards, People’s Choice Awards, MTV Movie Awards, Teen Choice Awards (if they were still around).
You thought you ate typing this. It kinda shows you are the actual kid 💀

I love those memorable cameos. There’s a thread buried here somewhere.
I’m not opposed to an Oscar category for this. The Sunne in Splendour.
I prefer my roses white"I want you to know, I will love you as long as I breathe"
Paul AtreidesSeptember 25, 2024 at 3:25 pm #1205963753Rossellini could easily get in with a small role. She’s a very respected veteran who has never been nominated.
If Ruby Dee can get in with American Gangster on this narrative, I think Rossellini could get in for a film higher in the Picture/Actor discussion.
Think Alan Alda in The Aviator or Judd Hirsch in Fabelmans (hell, he was nominated before even.)

Most of these had THE SCENE. Does Rossellini have one or is it just ambiant? To fit in here, she’ll definitely need something splashy and MEMORABLE – i.e. the Ruby Dee slap or the Shannon dinner outburst or the Mirren confession.
Dern for “Wild” was not memorable at all – very ambiant. But I believe it helped that she was a previous nominee…
In fact looking at your great list I see A LOT of previous nominees (food for thought)
September 25, 2024 at 8:08 pm #1205963999Rossellini is definitely an unsure nomination at the moment but according to Chris Rosen she does have a standout scene. If the end of the line-up is uncertain and past nominees show a good scene is all you need for a nomination she still definitely has a shot

Yeah, she should just go lead.
Padam…

No winner in that list, by the way. Beatrice Straight was long, long ago.
The only one that I know for sure that at least has ONE baity scene, is Bakalova (the rape). Sophia Loren won the Oscar for an Italian-speaking performance, with a similar scene, as lead. An added reason why I still hold on to Bakalova as possible nominee and even winner. I know no other performance in the running that will be so discussed, if marketing team do their job. She can easily become on top.
Rossellini, I am skeptical. Not because of her talent or screen time, but because I think focus would be on Fiennes and Tucci AND the film will be considered pop-corn pulp rather than a serious one.

I’ve been hearing disappointed reactions but I have no idea whether or not take them seriously. Are there any other sources that have seen and commented on the film?

Blitz always gave me a sensation of “by the numbers Oscar bait” that didn’t match Steve McQueen’s profile as an author. Yes, his “12 Years a Slave” won Best Picture, but I don’t think it was a film thought from the beginning with Oscars in mind, but aware of the chance it may do well, thanks to the theme. “Blitz” on the other hand, looked like a tailor-made Oscar film, and those, lately don’t do that well. Just check “Maestro” out and you’ll see why they respected it but didn’t give it anything.
