Nobody blends B-movie grit with A-list precision quite like Quentin Tarantino. With razor-sharp dialogue, an unmatched penchant for genre fusion, and whole-lotta feet, it is no wonder Tarantino’s work transformed the indie film scene in the early 90s.

With nine official films (and a last project on the cards), there’s everything here – from visceral revenge tales to character studies. This is our ranking of Tarantino’s films worst to best, in a quaint attempt to celebrate a director whose work remains endlessly cool; nevertheless, fiercely debated.
9. Death Proof (2007)
Death Proof is pure, audacious Tarantino. A tantalizing ode to ’70s B-movie thrills has Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike, a charming psycho who picks off talkative women with his “death-proof” car. While not everyone’s cup of tea, the movie’s stripped-down, no-studio-strings vibe and rapid-fire dialogue are undeniably Qt.

Quentin Tarantino, best known for his supporting turn in "Destiny Turns on the Radio," has never been shy about his taste in movies. Tarantino has long been drawn to aggressively masculine genre films, Westerns, war pictures, martial arts films, and anything one might have seen at a run-down grindhouse theater in 1977. He also likes very terse, tense movies, and has listed Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver," William Friedkin's "Sorcerer," and Sergio Leone's "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" as his favorites. He's likewise admitted to having fond feelings for "The Great Escape" (who doesn't?) and thinks very highly of Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk." It's easy to guess that he similarly loves "Rio Bravo" and "Apocalypse Now," and he often recommends the Sonny Chiba vehicle "The Street Fighter" from 1974.
Despite his tastes, however, Tarantino remains cinematically omnivorous, taking in hundreds of movies a year, sussing out the pop...

Quentin Tarantino became a household name after Pulp Fiction, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. And while that film is getting a 4K Ultra HD Collector’s Edition, Blu-ray.com has announced the 4K release of Tarantino’s follow-up — Jackie Brown. The movie is an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard book, Rum Punch, and the 1997 film stars starring Pam Grier, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, and Michael Keaton. This release is expected to hit retailers in the second half of January.
The description reads,
“When flight attendant Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) is busted smuggling money for her arms dealer boss, Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson), agent Ray Nicolette (Michael Keaton) and detective Mark Dargus (Michael Bowen) want her help to bring down Robbie. Facing jail time for her silence or death for her cooperation, Brown decides instead to double-cross both parties and make off with the smuggled money.

Back in 2007, Christian Bale had only one "Batman" movie on his resumé, and Russell Crowe hadn't yet tortured audiences with his vocal performance in the film version of Les Misérables. They also appeared in a Western movie together, and years after its release, people are going wild for the movie on Netflix.
"3:10 to Yuma" — which was written by Halsted Welles, Michael Brandt, and Derek Haas and helmed by future "Logan" director James Mangold — tells the story of a rancher who's down on his luck and ends up taking a risky assignment to bring down a famous outlaw, with Bale as rancher Dan Evans and Crowe as outlaw Ben Wade. The film, which is both an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's short story and a remake of a 1957 take on the story, boasts a pretty stacked cast and includes Logan Lerman, Ben Foster, Gretchen Mol, Alan Tudyk, and even the late legend Peter Fonda.

Quentin Tarantino has been fortunate enough to film a few episodes of some of his favorite television programs. But doing so seems to quickly ruin his enjoyment of the same shows he used to watch.

Tarantino has decided to lend his expertise in filmmaking to a couple of shows. He filled in as a guest director for the television series CSI in the 2000s. He helmed the two-parter season 5 finale “Grave Danger,” which he also ended up writing as well. He also faced little difficulty adapting to the limitations of network television than some might think, especially thanks to his admiration of the show.
“It wasn’t a challenge in that regard because … I like the show,” Tarantino once told Today. “I just wanted to do my episode of it. So the format was all the stuff I embrace.

From a budgetary perspective alone, Bill Lawrence — the writer behind “Scrubs,” “Ted Lasso,” “Cougar Town” and “Shrinking” — shouldn’t have shot his new Apple TV+ series “Bad Monkey” in Florida.
“There’s no tax break, and it’s immediately more expensive,” Lawrence says. “There are so many regulations about the wildlife and about what you’re allowed to do. There was a massive storm every 20 minutes that you have to shut down production. Animals were wandering around everywhere. It was tricky. But it mattered to Carl.”
“Carl” is Carl Hiaasen, Lawrence’s favorite author and the famed Miami-based writer behind the 2013 novel “Bad Monkey,” upon which the new series is adapted. Before Hiaasen would sign off on the show, he had one major stipulation: You have to film it in Florida.

Back in the 2000s, George Clooney’s name was strongly associated with crime flicks, as he starred as Danny Ocean in Steven Soderbergh’s hit trilogy Ocean's Eleven that brought him worldwide popularity and the status of a sex symbol.
Few people know, however, that the actor, who rose to fame after breakthrough roles in From Dusk till Dawn (1996) and Batman & Robin (1997), starred in another crime comedy. The 1998 film is still hailed by fans who claim it can even beat Ocean's Eleven.

There was a time back in the 1990s when one wouldn’t find Robert De Niro doing many interviews. He supposedly didn’t like them, and felt awkward. However, today on the ‘first’ day of Tribeca’s De Niro Con, the actor’s Jackie Brown filmmaker Quentin Tarantino unlocked the method actor at the Sva Theater.

Elmore Leonard — cinematically, perhaps the most influential writer of the 20th century whose name never gave rise to an adjective — casts a long shadow over Jeffrey Reiner’s Lake George, a satisfying L.A. noir that follows his legacy almost to the letter. There’s no chiaroscuro here, nothing bad happens even remotely in darkness, but there’s a moral shading that Leonard would most likely enjoy. For some reason, though, these sunshine-crime stories never seem to stick like their shadowy counterparts do, which means that Lake George might have to wait a while before it finds out where it sits in the whole noir canon.
Reiner’s script leans into a lot of traditional crime-movie tropes, and it begins with an ambiguous one: Don (Shea Whigham), a middle-aged divorcé, has just been released from jail after 10 years inside. But for what? Don doesn’t seem the type, and his first calls on the outside,...

Justified often appears on lists of the best TV shows of the 2010s, and for good reason. The brilliant adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novels is both neo-western and neo-noir, exploring honor and justice in the modern world.

Being recognized as the king of crime movies replete with violence, razor-sharp dialogues and allusions to pop culture entities, Quentin Tarantino inscribed his name in movie history. Almost all of his films are recognized both by critics and the audience.
However, there was a movie that became overshadowed by the success of Pulp Fiction (1994) and then by the Kill Bill saga (2003 - 2004). It appears to be the only movie of Tarantino that was adapted from a novel, Elmore Leonard’s one titled Rum Punch.
The film’s plot revolves around Jackie, a flight attendant, who is caught by the duo of an agent and a detective while she was heading to bring the money to her boss. The latter is in fact an arms dealer who is hunted by those two, and the woman is asked for help.

Steven Spielberg's filmmaking techniques took a large bound forward in 2001 with the release of "A.I. Artificial Intelligence." The sci-fi film, set in a near future populated by conscious androids, was a project Spielberg took over from an ailing Stanley Kubrick, who passed on it when he felt Spielberg could do it better. In "A.I.," Spielberg's photography and editing were very different from the slick, adventure films and glossy prestige pictures he had become popular making. Now everything was hazy, staid, more deliberate.
Although he had already won three Oscars (two for "Schindler's List" and one for "Saving Private Ryan") and was widely considered to be a reigning master of Hollywood's blockbuster class, Spielberg evolved. After 2001, Spielberg's career bifurcated into dispassionate effects-based thrillers wherein the filmmaker was merely experimenting, and deeply passionate political thrillers that used the politics of the past to reflect on issues of the day.

How do Hollywood creators forge massive universes for their characters? For Ronald D. Moore, executive producer of “For All Mankind” and “Outlander,” it all began with the question: What if the Russians landed on the moon first? From this starting point, “For All Mankind” was born. Colt’s latest gig is at a high-budget blockbuster sci-fi film directed by his ex-girlfriend who he still loves and when the main actor of her film disappears, Colt must find him and bring him back. A deserted road in the middle of the endless expanse of the American outback. Two opponents in hats face each other. Each is ready at a moment's notice to pull the trigger and send the enemy to the next world. Scenes like these take us back to a time when sheriffs and marshals were little different from criminals.
It's hard to imagine something like this in the 21st century, but Justified manages to tell the classic story of the Wild West in modern Kentucky in the most realistic and effective way possible. The premiere took place in 2010 and the finale was shown in 2015, but the series still deserves attention nine years after it ended.
Justified is not put on the same level as recognized masterpieces like The Sopranos or Breaking Bad, although at its best, this grandiose neo-western is no inferior to even the most popular TV series in history.

“I trust myself as a writer, I trust my process,” Quentin Tarantino declared onstage at the Adobe Max creative conference in 2016. “I never try to take anything out too soon. If I do, I realize it, and I put it back.” The acclaimed filmmaker added: “Not every film needs to be made. Not every movie should be made.”
And one of those movies that will not be made — as the world learned April 17 — is The Movie Critic, which was billed as Tarantino’s 10th and final film. The project initially focused on a writer working for a fictional porn magazine in the late 1970s and then it quietly evolved, amid a flurry of rewrites, into something resembling a spinoff of his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (with some potential meta twists, as we’ll explain later).

Actor Clint Eastwood helped make the Dirty Harry franchise one of the most iconic series of action films in cinema. But at one point Eastwood was looking for another action franchise to own.

Eastwood’s Dirty Harry series only helped further the actor’s legacy back in the day. But initially, he hoped to have another separate franchise as equally lucrative under his belt with a similar personality to Dirty Harry. In an attempt to replicate the film’s success, Eastwood allegedly went to famous writer Elmore Leonard for help. Apart from his novels, Leonard was also known for penning movies. He wrote features like Charles Bronson’s Mr. Majestyk, which was initially pitched to Eastwood. It was also inspired by his own book The Big Bounce.

Carla Gugino is amazing. From her early days co-starring with Pauly Shore in Son-In-Law to indies with her partner Sebastian Gutierrez, including Electra Luxx and Women in Trouble, Gugino has shirked the traditional path many Hollywood actresses have taken. The result is a career full of unique work on the big screen and small including work with filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez, Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game), Zack Snyder, Ridley Scott (American Gangster), and more. Her series work with Mike Flanagan has included an array of roles in The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, as well as her recent turn in The Fall of the House of Usher, which garnered Gugino her first Critics Choice nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

Ryan O’Neal, the boyish leading man who kicked off an extraordinary 1970s run in Hollywood with his Oscar-nominated turn as the Harvard preppie Oliver in the legendary romantic tearjerker Love Story, has died. He was 82.
O’Neal died Friday, his son Patrick O’Neal, a sportscaster with Bally Sports West in Los Angeles, reported on Instagram. He had been diagnosed with chronic leukemia in 2001 and with prostate cancer in 2012.
“As a human being, my father was as generous as they come,” Patrick wrote. “And the funniest person in any room. And the most handsome clearly, but also the most charming. Lethal combo. He loved to make people laugh. It’s pretty much his goal. Didn’t matter the situation, if there was a joke to be found, he nailed it. He really wanted us laughing. And we did all laugh. Every time. We had fun. Fun in the sun.”

The short and shaggy tale of an aging hitman (Pierce Brosnan) who realizes it’s time to either get out of the game or die trying, Phillip Noyce’s “Fast Charlie” is the kind of movie you’ve seen a thousand times before. It was adapted from the 2003 Victor Gischler novel “Gun Monkeys,” which is the kind of book you’ve read a thousand times before. And yet, the difference here — the most crucial reason why this particular version of that well-weathered story is weirdly charming instead of trite — is that Noyce’s film treats its ultra-familiar tropes as more of a feature than a bug. They’re the lingua franca of a Southern-fried thriller set in the clogged drain at the bottom of the criminal underworld; a place that everybody talks about leaving, but nobody ever seems to escape. Not while they’re still breathing, anyway.

“It was really an attempt not to go back to what we’d done, not to reboot ‘Justified,’ but to kind of catapult Raylan into this world, into this other show, another series called ‘City Primeval.’ And we had a ball doing it,” remembers “Justified: City Primeval” showrunner Michael Dinner about revisiting the character of Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), the deputy US marshal last seen when “Justified” ended its original run eight years ago. After the debacle that was Batman & Robin, George Clooney needed to find the kind of role that would rehabilitate his reputation as an actor. He found it in Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight, a crime comedy adapted from a novel by Elmore Leonard. In Out of Sight, Clooney led an outstanding ensemble cast that included Jennifer Lopez, Don Cheadle, Catherine Keener, Albert Brooks, Ving Rhames, Nancy Allen, and Dennis Farina. It turned out to be a good career move for Clooney — the movie got fantastic reviews and, although it wasn’t a huge box-office hit at the time, has become a cult classic over the years. When Out of Sight was released in 1998, Clooney walked us through the process that resulted in him starring in the film. Spoilers for Justified: City Primeval. Timothy Olyphant returned as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens for a new Justified series based on Elmore Leonard’s crime novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. While the story of Justified: City Primeval was largely self-contained, it did leave a pretty big door open for a possible season 2 featuring the return of a fan-favourite character.
In the closing moments of the Justified: City Primeval finale, we catch up with none other than Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), who is able to escape from prison after faking an illness and seducing a guard. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Justified: City Primeval showrunners Michael Dinner and Dave Andron were asked if this meant that a second season was in the works.

There were classic Gen X movies before 1994, but none of these films came close to capturing the pop-culture mad, video-store zeitgeist of this cohort like Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction." The precociously talented writer-director appropriated the tough-talking, cold-around-the-heart aesthetic of classic crime fiction and made his killers talk like twentysomethings waxing stoned on cinema, music and syndicated television shows. Tarantino hit a sweet spot most moviegoers didn't know they possessed, and like anyone who catches the highest of highs, they wanted more of what he was pushing.
Almost 30 years later, Tarantino has refused to give his fans what they think they want -- which is odd since he's the one who's filled their heads with the potential of sequels and spinoffs to his first two movies. But Tarantino, who has worked steadily if not prolifically over 31 years (nine movies with his tenth and apparently final feature coming in "The Movie Critic...

Quentin Tarantino has been very vocal about not wanting to direct movies as an old man, which explains the director’s upcoming retirement. But the director also felt he got his old-man movie out the way when he was still a young filmmaker.
Why Quentin Tarantino considered this film his ‘old-man’ movie Quentin Tarantino | Jacopo M. Raule/Getty Images
Tarantino has delivered a variety of movies to the big screen, some taking place in different time periods and genres entirely. Many of his films usually depict some level of strong violence that occasionally even stir up controversies.
But Jackie Brown was a Tarantino movie that took a different approach to the filmmaker’s usual work. Because of this, some critics saw the Elmore Leonard adaptation as a sign of Tarantino maturing.
However, when Tarantino reverted back to his more familiar style with subsequent films, this generated criticism that he was regressing.

The Flash — Max
Warner Bros. boss David Zaslav infamously declared The Flash “the best superhero movie I’ve ever seen.” When the film was released in May, everyone wondered how many superhero films Zaslav had watched before this one. Yet the DC title starring Ezra Miller (which is a whole other conversation) also wasn’t nearly as lousy as its shockingly low box office suggested. The Flash is a modern-day spin on Back to the Future with clever dialogue, some affecting moments and, for once, a climactic CG-filled battle that isn’t the solution to the superhero’s crisis.
