- As Joy Loveland, she began posing at age 13, and attended MGM's studio talent school at age 17.
- Was considered for the role of Miss Casswell in All About Eve (1950), which eventually went to Marilyn Monroe.
- Lansing met her longtime companion Nancy Hunter (aka Alexis Hunter) in 1969 when she was separated from her third husband. They remained in a clandestine relationship until Lansing's death in 1972; Hunter was at her side when she died.

- She was considered for a continuing character role in the series Adventures of Superman (1952) after the success of her role of Superman's Wife (1958) in the final season, filmed in the fall of 1957, but the series was canceled.
- Was married four times. Her first marriage occurred at age 17 but lasted less than a year. Her second, to Columbia Pictures sales manager Jerry Safron, was over within four months. Her third, to actor Lance Fuller, ended in separation and divorce after only a year and a half. She was long estranged from fourth husband Stan Todd, an investment broker who became her manager, by the time she died of breast cancer in 1972.
- Her parents, Virginia Grace (Shupe) Brown and shoe salesman Jack Glenn Brown, were devout Mormons. They divorced when she was young; her mother later married Vernon Loveland, who adopted her.
- In 1958 she was directed in two films by Orson Welles: as a stripper in Touch of Evil (1958); and as an actress in The Fountain of Youth (1958).
- She was considered for the role of Venus De Marco in The Ice House (1969) before the part went to Sabrina.
- "Chicago Tribune" columnist Toni Remineh was her press agent at one time.
