Bill Paxton was an incredibly nice man who excelled at playing world-class jerks. He popped in small roles in Franc Roddam's "The Lords of Discipline" and Walter Hill's "Streets of Fire" before getting to strut his smug stuff as Chet, the world's worst big brother, in John Hughes' "Weird Science." From there, Paxton was off and running. Hudson in "Aliens" and Severen in "Near Dark" are two of the most quotable heels of the 1980s. Then he segued to hugely sympathetic leading man roles in films as diverse as Carl Franklin's southern fried neo-noir "One False Move" and Jan De Bont's mega-blockbuster "Twister."
Whether he was playing a swaggeringly vicious vampire or a naive, eager-to-please police chief, Paxton drew us in. He made bold choices, which gave every scene a charge because we never knew how he'd play any given moment. He was a mischief-maker in this regard.

Exclusive: MasterChef is officially back in production in the UK after Shine got cameras rolling on spin-off show MasterChef: The Professionals last week.
Filming is underway on Season 13 of the professionals’ franchise at 3 Mills Studios in London, with Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace resuming their hosting and judging duties — albeit with a socially distanced twist.
MasterChef: The Professionals is the first of the UK MasterChef brands to go into production in the pandemic era. Celebrity MasterChef is currently broadcasting on BBC One but wrapped just before lockdown in March.
3 Mills Studios has been MasterChef’s home in the UK for a number of years and it is understood that the large studio space used to house the show has been an advantage in getting production underway.
A MasterChef spokeswoman said: “We are ensuring that all Covid-19 filming protocols are being adhered to as set out in industry-wide filming guidelines published last week.

The first time Tilda Swinton went to Cannes, it was for a film she hated. It was “Aria” in 1989, an omnibus title with contributions from Robert Altman, Jean-Luc Godard, Bruce Beresford, Nic Roeg, Charles Sturridge, Franc Roddam, and Derek Jarman. “We all got on like a house on fire,” she said. “A lot of people were drawn to libations in the crew. We all saw the film at the end, we all hated the film, and were friends for life.”
Since then, she’s attended to serve on two juries, and for eight films: Jim Jarmusch’s “Broken Flowers” and “Only Lovers Left Alive,” Béla Tarr’s “The Man From London,” David Mackenzie’s “Young Adam,” Lynne Ramsay’s “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” Bong Joon Ho’s “Okja,” and Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom.” This year, she returns with Jarmusch’s opening-night zombie comedy, “The Dead Don’t Die.

Tuesday is turning into in-season reality night on Fox for the first time in almost a decade.
The network has slotted Tuesday, February 26 for the Season 7 premiere of MasterChef Junior. The culinary competition series featuring talented kid chefs will air at 8 Pm, replacing Lethal Weapon, whose 16-episode third season will have its finale the previous week.
MasterChef Junior will be followed by previously announced new obstacle course reality competition Mental Samurai at 9 Pm, also set to premiere Feb. 26. It will replace drama The Gifted.
Tuesday has been a weak spot on Fox’s schedule, and the network is looking to shake things up with an all-reality lineup, which involves some counter-programming, going with an unscripted show against NBC”s drama juggernaut This Is Us at 9 Pm.
The last time Fox had an all-reality Tuesday lineup during the regular broadcast season was in fall 2009 when it aired an in-season installment of...

Starring Sting, Jennifer Beals, Clancy Brown, David Rappaport Directed by Franc Roddam Distributed by Scream Factory The Bride (1985) isn’t really a horror flick. It’s pretty much a straight drama/romance. Which is to say, despite this being about Frankenstein’s monster and his bride, there’s nothing remotely scary about the film. Also, there’s just a small amount of gore. […]

Because Gordon Ramsay apparently isn’t busy enough, Fox has ordered a 10th season of his MasterChef. The renewal of the unscripted hit from Endemol Shine comes ahead of tonight’s Season 9 finale.
The network also said today that Natalka Znak (Hardcore Pawn) has joined the show as executive producer.
Nationwide casting calls for Season 10 have begun and will continue throughout September as MasterChef looks for the next batch of home cooks to compete for the coveted white apron. And, for the first time ever, Ramsay’s own culinary team will be hitting the road with the casting team to be his eyes and ears — checking out potential contestants and tasting their culinary creations.
The irascible Ramsay’s full plate also includes or has included such U.S. culinary reality series as spinoff MasterChef Junior, 24 Hours to Hell and Back, Hell’s Kitchen and Culinary Genius. He also fronts multiple series on British TV.

Next month will mark the return of New York City’s Quad Cinema, a theater reshaped and rebranded as a proper theater via the resources of Charles S. Cohen, head of the distribution outfit Cohen Media Group. While we got a few hints of the line-up during the initial announcement, they’ve now unveiled their first full repertory calendar, running from April 14th through May 4th, and it’s an embarassment of cinematic riches.
Including the previously revealed Lina Wertmüller retrospective, one inventive series that catches our eye is First Encounters, in which an artist will get to experience a film they’ve always wanted to see, but never have, and in which you’re invited to take part. In 1973, English rock group The Who released their second rock opera "Quadrophenia," which loosely followed the story of young mod named Jimmy and his search for a place in the world. Six years later, Franc Roddam's film adaptation of the album starring Phil Daniels ("Vinyl," "Chicken Run") as Jimmy, a kid who falls in with the mod culture only for his life to slowly spiral out of control, was released to mostly positive reviews. The Criterion Collection released a restored Blu-ray of the film featuring an all-new sound mix in 2012. Now, NME reports that a sequel is set to be filmed this summer, 37 years after the original film's release. Read More: Dardenne Brothers, 'Quadrophenia,' Andrew Haigh's 'Weekend' Lead August Criterion Collection Releases The film will be based on the Pete Townshend-approved Peter Meadows book "To Be Someone," which continued Jimmy's adventures after the events of the film.
