He and wife Ethel were convicted of spying for the Soviet Union. Many
believed their only crime was their affiliation with the Communist
Party in America, but
Nikita Khrushchev confirmed in his memoirs that the couple
did, in fact, pass atomic secrets to the Soviets, for which they were
executed.
