After banking over one billion dollars at the box office with Greta Gerwig’s joyous Barbie movie, Margot Robbie is ready to embark on A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in 2025. The Kogonada-directed drama opens on May 9, 2025, during Mother’s Day weekend. The newly-announced release date finds A Big Bold Beautiful Journey arriving in theaters one week after the theatrical debut of Marvel Studios‘ Thunderbolts*, which hits cinemas on May 2, 2025. Some could say it’s a bold move to go toe-to-toe with one of Marvel’s action blockbusters, especially after the overwhelming success of the studio’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which has banked over one billion at the box office.
Kogonada directs A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from a script by Seth Reiss. The film reportedly focuses on two strangers and how their paths align unexpectedly. Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater join the cast alongside Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

After Episode 4, titled The Burden, Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent is halfway through its eight-episode run.
The murder trial, presumably dominating the second half of the limited series, has not even begun.
Therefore, Episode 4 does much of what previous episodes have done: Going back and forth on how guilty Rusty looks while occasionally introducing the possibility of other suspects, who often resemble red herrings.

Episode 4 begins with Rusty and Barbara confronting their son, Kyle, after the last episode's revelation that there was a picture of him on his bike near Carolyn's home on the night of the murder.

“The Great Lillian Hall” reunites three “American Horror Story” actresses to deliver a tour de force in TV movies. Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Lily Rabe all star in this HBO TV Movie, directed by Michael Cristofer, that follows the careers of fictional Broadway actress Lillian Hall.
It’s Lange who plays Lillian and the veteran actress has turned in another masterclass in acting. She has always been a commanding screen presence and that doesn’t change here as she depicts a legendary actress as a triumph on stage but a nervous wreck in rehearsals while she battles with early dementia. It’s always a treat watching icons play icons (Lange did this again in “Feud: Bette and Joan”) and while Lillian is fictional, the impact is no less felt. Critics agree, this could be Lange’s greatest performance yet.

Inspired by the Kathy Braidhill book of the same name, the series will chart the chilling and twisted tale of the Lamb Funeral Home in 1980s Los Angeles. When David Sconce — the Machiavellian scion of a Bible college football coach and a church organist — takes the reins of the family business, the seemingly All-American clan begins a jaw-dropping descent from saints to sinners. Desperate to keep their funeral home afloat, Sconce engineers a sinister new business strategy, replete with human body harvesting and mass cremation. The script will paint a harrowing portrait of hubris against the neon greed of the era,...

Presumed Innocent, a novel published in 1987 by lawyer-turned-author Scott Turow, came from a specific era of popular fiction about the law, which prefigured John Grisham's massive run not long after.
Grisham's novels featured heroic lawyers against mobsters, Klansmen, and other bad guys.
Turow's most popular novel, on the other hand, was the much less heroic story of a prosecuting attorney accused of murdering a fellow lawyer, a woman with whom he had an extramarital affair.
Just as Grisham's novels The Firm, A Time to Kill, and The Pelican Brief drew considerable interest from Hollywood, Turow's novel Presumed Innocent was made into a movie in 1990, directed by Alan J. Pakula (All the President's Men).

“A plantation was a plantation,” Colson Whitehead wrote in his 2016 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Underground Railroad. “One might think one’s misfortunes distinct, but the true horror lay in their universality.” It’s that sense of infinite trauma—spreading across the United States, backward and forward throughout history, and deep into the souls of the enslaved—that comes across most palpably in the 10-part adaptation of the book, which is unsparingly and expansively directed by Barry Jenkins.
On her flight from the Georgia plantation that her mother vanished from years earlier, Cora Randall (Thuso Mbedu) is asked to share the story of her pain. In Whitehead’s version of history, the railroad isn’t a metaphor but a real underground transportation system with stationmasters and conductors and locomotives, some with curtained windows and wine aboard. Every stop represents a new hope and space for testimony. In each state that Cora disembarks,...

One of the most lauded events of the Tribeca Festival, Chanel returned to host the 17th annual Tribeca Artists Dinner on Monday, June 10 at The Odeon in Manhattan, moving locations from Balthazar last year. The intimate evening honors the artists who have contributed original artwork to the festival’s award-winning filmmakers.
The carpet always feels like some sort of family reunion at this event, where much of Hollywood assembles in what feels like a — though glamorous — laid-back dinner to celebrate how far the film scene of NYC has come as it regenerated itself after 9/11. IndieWire favorites Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, Katie Holmes, Blake Lively, Jude Law, Trevor Noah, Mark Ronson, Camila Mendes, Selma Blair, Colman Domingo, Chloe Fineman, Olivia Munn, Dianna Agron, Hannah Einbinder, Hari Nef, Lizzy Caplan, Lily Rabe, Natasha Lyonne, Victoria Pedretti, David Harbour, David O. Russell, and Francesca Scorsese were just a handful of the many attendees.

Plot: Following chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich, the series takes viewers on a gripping journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.
Review: Everything old is new again. In 1990, Harrison Ford led the first adaptation of Presumed Innocent, based on the best-selling novel by Scott Turow. A critical success and the eighth-highest-grossing film of the year, Presumed Innocent was a masterful courtroom thriller from director Alan J. Pakula that also delivered one of the best twists ever. While it spawned two small-screen sequels, neither lived up to the original film. Over three decades later, we are getting a remake of Presumed Innocent from the one-two punch of David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams.

On paper, Presumed Innocent might sound like your standard courtroom thriller… but there’s no one you’d rather have writing one of those than David E. Kelley. The man has been cranking out quality TV legal dramas since the days of L.A. Law, and the mind behind Ally McBeal and The Practice delivers once again as writer and showrunner of this new Apple TV+ series, premiering this Wednesday. (I’ve seen seven of the eight episodes.) Kelley takes a familiar premise — one that’s quite similar to Paramount+’s far inferior Fatal Attraction remake, in fact — and spins it into a sturdy,...

For Mac Quayle, composing the score for the HBO film project “The Great Lillian Hall” proved something of a departure from his most recent projects, which have included nine seasons of the FX anthology “American Horror Story,” the Fox/ABC procedural “9-1-1” and the Netflix drama “Leave the World Behind.” “Lillian Hall” tells the story of a legendary Broadway star (Jessica Lange) fearfully facing the ticking clock of time while doggedly working to defy it following a dementia diagnosis. In talking to director Michael Cristofer about the music, “we recognized this is an intimate story about Lillian Hall and this sudden dementia that she’s experiencing,” Quayle recalls. “We thought that (when) it needed some music that it shouldn’t be too big, it needed to have a little more intimate sound. On May 31, 2024, “The Great Lillian Hall” premiered on HBO to predominantly positive reviews from critics. In the film, Oscar, Emmy and Tony winner Jessica Lange plays the titular character, a Broadway star battling dementia as she prepares for a big role on the Great White Way. The movie reunites Lange with her “American Horror Story” co-stars Kathy Bates and Lily Rabe, who play Lillian’s assistant and daughter, respectively. Pierce Brosnan and Jesse Williams also star.

Hamish Linklater has joined Season 2 of “Gen V” at Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned.
Linklater will play the character Cipher, described as “the charismatic and charming newly-appointed Dean of Godolkin University. Trained as a scientist, he’s politically brilliant, and has the trust and admiration of officials at the highest level.”

In “The Great Lillian Hall,” Jessica Lange plays a veteran theater actress — a legend of the Broadway stage — who is always putting on airs, reciting bits from her favorite roles, and carrying on in the tradition of fabled actresses who get known for playing characters like Blanche DuBois because they’ve actually got a lot of Blanche in them. (They believe their own illusions.) Yet just because Lillian Hall is a flamboyant grand dame doesn’t mean that she’s not showing you who she is. Lange, a beauty at 75, has a face that has only grown more expressive with the years. In “The Great Lillian Hall,” that face is a map of emotion we read. Even when Lillian is being deceptive (even when she’s deceiving herself), the majesty of her feelings shines through.

I am a sucker for movies about Broadway and those who spend their lives in the theatre. Of course the crown jewel of the genre is the Oscar-winning All About Eve, but there are so many others including 1933’s Morning Glory which won a young Katherine Hepburn her first Academy Award, as well as its rarely seen remake, 1958’s underrated Stage Struck. Ginger Rogers did a good one, too: Forever Female. The list goes on and on and now includes a stellar new entry, The Great Lillian Hall which gives the great Jessica Lange a challenging role worth her talents.
Premiering on HBO May 31, just barely under the wire for Emmy consideration, Lange’s performance as a stage legend facing dementia should send chills down the spine of any other contenders for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie this season. This veteran star simply knocks it out of the park.

Jessica Lange is perfection as the fictional actress Lillian Hall, known for decades as a revered star of the theater. During rehearsals for her starring role in The Cherry Orchard, she is having unusual difficulty memorizing her lines, and before long learns that the cause is early dementia. Despite that ominous theme, The Great Lillian Hall is a lovely tribute to life in the theater, with all its personal compromises, and a showcase for Lange, who deftly shows the character as a vulnerable woman and also displays the distinct style of Lillian the bravura actress.
Lillian is such a star that she is the key to the box office in the Broadway revival of Chekhov. The film’s trajectory takes her through rehearsals, and in and out of her personal life as she grapples with her diagnosis, in a plot driven by the question of whether she’ll make it to opening night.

Jessica Lange may have hinted at her own retirement for years, but the legendary actress is actually playing it out onscreen with her latest film “The Great Lillian Hall.”
Lange stars as the titular (fictional) iconic stage actress who grapples with her own legacy amid a dementia diagnosis. Her daughter (Lily Rabe) struggles with separating her mother Lillian from her Broadway fame, while Kathy Bates, Jesse Williams, and Pierce Brosnan round out the cast.
“I have lived my entire life in a place that creates illusions,” Lange says in the trailer as Lillian. Yet upon her cognizant decline, what’s real anymore, anyway?

Apple TV+ has revealed the first teaser-trailer for “Presumed Innocent” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, from Emmy-winning creator David E. Kelley.
Gyllenhaal narrates the trailer as Rusty Sabich, a man seemingly consumed by his love for a woman named Carolyn (Renate Reinsve). “She woke something up inside me,” he says as the footage cuts between his time with her and images of cars and courtrooms and arguments — clearly invoking a darker twist in this alleged romance. Carolyn, it turns out, has been murdered and, given their history, Rusty is the prime suspect.
What the trailer leaves out is extra juicy: Rusty and Carolyn were coworkers and prosecutors, and the suspected crime sends waves through the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office as they mourn a colleague, reel from an affair, and pursue a murder investigation — to say nothing of how it affects Rusty’s marriage and home life.
The rest of the cast includes Ruth Negga,...

True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

The invitation read “dress code: Fashion,” and guests at the second annual Fashion Trust U.S. Awards didn’t disappoint – with Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jessica Biel, Andra Day, Awkwafina, Heidi Klum, Janelle Monaé and Kelsea Ballerini showing up in head-turning looks.
“Get ready for a wild night,” host Zooey Deschanel improvised, as she waited for the starry crowd to take their seats inside the tented dinner held in the backyard of a sprawling Beverly Hills estate on Tuesday. The actress kept things moving with a series of lighthearted jokes between awards. “It’s clear the world needs fashion more than ever because without fashion, all the problems of the world would still exist but everyone would be naked and naked is boring.”
