Some love to chill with an old familiar rom-com, while others prefer witnessing Liam Neeson ruthlessly hunt people down for the sake of revenge. For those in the latter category, consider making Seraphim Falls your latest comfort watch. The 2006 film stars Neeson as a former Civil War colonel who’s on a mission to take down a disgraced officer — played by Ireland’s favorite James Bond, Pierce Brosnan.
In the style of an old-fashioned Western, the allegorical film follows the war vets as they duke it out across the American West. Seraphim Falls was the feature directorial debut of television director David Von Ancken, who died in 2021. It was co-written by Von Ancken and Abby Everett Jaques.

Prolific television director David Von Ancken, who also helmed the feature Seraphim Falls, passed away July 26 at his home in Agoura Hills, CA after a two-year battle with aggressive stomach cancer. He was 56.
David Von Ancken, known lovingly as “Dva,” was born in New York on December 5, 1964. His career got off to a hot start with the 2001 short Bullet In the Brain, starring Tom Noonan and Dean Winters, which Von Ancken wrote and directed. It won Universal/Hypnotic Films’ Million Dollar Film Festival as well as numerous other festival awards and opened the doors for Von Ancken to embark on a directing career.
He became a sought-after — and beloved — episodic director who worked on some three dozen series over the past two decades, including Oz, Without a Trace, The Shield, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, The Mentalist, Person of Interest, The Following, Intelligence, House of Lies, MacGyver, The Crossing and The Purge.

Updated May 24 at 7:31 a.m. Pt with “Code Black” canceled by CBS.
Is “Ghosted” coming back?
That’s a question on viewers’ minds as upfronts week comes to a close, with Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS and The CW all having announced their fall programming schedules as of Thursday. ‘Cause some of those slates have holes in them, meaning the statuses of almost half a dozen shows on broadcast television are still up in the air.
Look, we can accept the fact that not every series will be saved like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — not every show should be. But come on, networks — minus ABC and The CW, who have already killed or renewed everything they’re going to — fans need to hear one way or another whether their favorite programs will be returning this fall, especially for ones that have a crazy-devoted fanbase.

ABC is not moving forward with a second season of drama series The Crossing.
The Crossing premiered April 2 with American Idol as a lead-in, but that episode of the revived singing-competition series happened to match a series-low demo rating for a regular telecast. Post-Idol, the midseason drama managed to eke out a win in the 10 Pm hour with a 1.0 and 5.45 million viewers. It outperformed same night last year for ABC by double digits but fell short of previous week’s The Good Doctor wrapper and its season average, though that still left it ABC’s second-most-watched Monday 10 Pm debut, behind Doctor, in nearly three years.
The series stared Steve Zahn as the sheriff of a small fishing town in Oregon who must deal with dozens of refugees from a war-torn country who arrive on its beach. One twist: The country they’re from is America — and the war they’re...

Syfy has canceled the horror series Ghost Wars after its debut 13-episode season, Deadline has confirmed. The series premiered in October 2017.
Created by Simon Barry, Ghost Wars was an acquisition title for the cable network. Set in a remote Alaskan town that has been overrun by paranormal forces, the series focuses on local outcast Roman Mercer (Avan Jogia) who must overcome the town’s prejudices and his own personal demons if he’s to harness his repressed psychic powers and save everyone from the mass haunting that’s threatening to destroy them all.
Ghost Wars starred Vincent D’Onofrio, Kim Coates, Avan Jogia, Kristin Lehman and Meatloaf. David Von Ancken directed the pilot while Barry helmed two episodes. Other directors included Leslie Hope, Michael Nankin, Mathias Herdndl, and Jason Priestley. Nomadic Pictures’ Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev served as executive producers with Barry, Dennis Heaton and Von Ancken.

CBS has announced that director James Wan has been hired to direct the pilot episode of the "MacGyver" reboot starring Lucas Till, George Eads, and Justin Hires. The "Fast 7" director had been developing the tv project and was originally going to direct the pilot until he dropped out to focus on the post-production for Warner Bros. Pictures "The Conjuring 2" which just opened last weekend.
Since Wan dropped out of the pilot, CBS hired David Von Ancken as a replacement. Sources CBS has scrapped Von Ancken's pilot and now they want to rehire Wan as the director to helm a new version of the pilot. CBS picked up "MacGyver" for a full season order and are planning a new take on the reboot with a script by "Hawaii Five-o" showrunner Peter Lenkov.
The new premise for the new "MacGyver" pilot reads:
"MacGyver now creates a clandestine organization within the U.

James Wan was instrumental in getting CBS' MacGyver reboot off the ground and at one point was set to direct the pilot episode himself. However, his feature film commitments led to Wan dropping out and he was replaced by David Von Ancken who directed the MacGyver pilot. James Wan had to pass on directing CBS’ MacGyver pilot because of a scheduling conflict with post-production on The Conjuring 2, but the filmmaker has now cleared some space in his schedule to take the helm of a retooled version of the TV series.
David Von Ancken initially took his place as director after the show was picked up to series for the Fall, but now the original pilot has been scrapped in preference of a new take which was written by Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter Lenkov. New MacGyver Lucas Till and co-star George Eads will remain, but the rest of the cast is set to be replaced.
In the original pilot, MacGyuver was recruited by the clandestine organization from the original series and once again used his problem solving skills to help avert disasters. Here’s how the new take will shape up:

When it comes to figuring out why spy series MacGyver is getting a TV reboot, your guess is as good as mine, but today brings some news about what it’s going to look like, in the form of two cast additions.
Addison Timlin, known best for Californication but most familiar to this writer as the love interest for Anton Yelchin in Stephen Sommers’ under-appreciated Odd Thomas, has boarded the CBS project in the lead female role. She’s playing Mickey, an app developer who’s aggressively progressive in her political views but harbors a soft spot for Lucas Till’s MacGyver. Meanwhile, Michelle Krusiec (Hawaii Five-o) will play Agent Croix, who works for the Department of Homeland Security and is sister to a character named Lincoln (George Eads).

Earlier this year it was announced that James Wan was producing a new MacGyver TV series for CBS. Well, the network has cast Lucas Till in the title role. Till plays Havoc in the X-Men films. The guy is a talented young actor, and I think he has the perfect MacGyver look. This is a perfect role for him to play, and it will be great to see how he makes the character his own. Joshua Boone (Fan Girl) was also cast in the role of Gunner, who is MacGyver’s best friend.
According to Deadline, the young Angus MacGyver (Till), “is recruited into the clandestine organization from the original series where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening. The drama serves as a prequel to the original series, in which MacGyver was played by Richard Dean Anderson.”

"X-Men" actor Lucas Till will step into the shoes of Richard Dean Anderson, taking on the iconic character of MacGyver in CBS' upcoming reimagining of the early 1990s series.
The new take follows a twenty-something MacGyver (Till) as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.
The casting caps a weeks-long search by CBS. The network originally had a script by R. Scott Gemmill ("NCIS: La") but instead have picked up the pilot without a script after deciding to go with a new pitch from Paul Downs Colaizzo ("Lfe") who was initially attached to the project when it was in development.
Joshua Boone has also joined the drama pilot as a series regular, playing MacGyver's best friend from high school named Gunner. George Eads ("CSI") is also onboard to co-star.

George Eads ("CSI: Crime Scene Investigation") is returning to CBS with the news today that he's set to co-star in the "MacGyver" re-imagining currently in the works.
The story follows a twenty-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.
Eads, the first person cast in the pilot, will take on the role of a compassionate and eccentric conspiracy theorist and government employee named Lincoln.

Spike is entering the world of big time productions with Tut, a three-night, six hour event series starring Ben Kingsley and Avan Jogia, and while I’m not sure about the history, it certainly looks like an interesting ride.
The series covers his rise to power, and those who closely surround him during his reign. Apparently, the underhanded, scheming tactics of those surrounding thrones are not limited to any specific set of kingdoms.
As you might imagine, because you’re caught up on GoT, boy kings have a tendency to get pushed around.
Check the trailer above, and mark your calendar.
Spike presents its most ambitious dramatic scripted project in network history, Tut, which stars Academy Award®-winner Sir Ben Kingsley and Avan Jogia. This three-night, six hour limited event series premieres Sunday, July 19 – Tuesday, July 21 (9:00 – 11:00 Pm, Et/Pt).

Each week we look at the best films and TV available on the various streaming and VOD services available. Here are our picks for this week.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Starring: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Directed by: Christopher Nolan.
Available on Now TV.
The weird quick turnaround time-lapse between hyperbole and backlash that we have seen plague our blockbusters this summer can be traced back to this film. As a follow-up to The Dark Knight, it is a disappointment but it’s still a fitting finale and is definitely on a par with Batman Begins. A lot of the problems this film had on release have to do with it coming so soon after The Avengers. The Dark Knight Rises is epic filmmaking and has many breath-taking sequences in its own right; it just doesn’t have four superheroes fighting aliens. Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle...

Hell on Wheels, Season 3, Episode 1: “Big Bad Wolf”
Written by Mark Richard
Directed by David Von Ancken
Hell on Wheels, Season 3, Episode 2: “Eminent Domain”
Written by John Wirth
Directed by Adam Davidson
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on AMC
It’s no secret- last season’s Hell on Wheels had a lot of issues, mainly the forced relationship between Cullen and Lily Bell (after all, this is not a show conducive to a dewy romance). Fortunately that arc wrapped up in the season two finale and judging by the premiere, season three promises to be one heck of a year.
As “Big Bad Wolf” opens, Cullen (Anson Mount) emerges from a massive snow storm a somewhat new man. He’s not exactly stable but as he arrives in Omaha to collect Elam (Common), who’s living with the heavily pregnant Eva (Robin McLeavy), it’s obvious he’s a man trying to change,...

The Following, Season 1, Episode 12: “The Curse”
Written by Seamus Kevin Fahey & Amanda Kate Shuman
Directed by David Von Ancken
Aired Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
From the file of Too Little Too Late comes “The Curse,” an episode that contrives for our hero and villain to cross paths and have a discussion all about Ryan’s motivations for how he acts… now, three episodes before the end.
Yes, Joe can put together an entire cult, create an entire brainwashing compound, escape from maximum security prison twice, and become the most notorious killer the United States has ever seen, yet “he” can’t think of an ending for his book. To do so, “he” needs to call up Ryan and see what drove his main character in the first place. And no, “he” is not Kevin Williamson whatsoever, so buzz off! It is weird, though that Joe would begin this endeavor,...

Agents from every law enforcement agency in the country have descended on the armory to dig through every bit of evidence. There are all sorts of files and training videos, and while everyone is identified by an alias, the FBI is able to link several people on the tapes to a militia group known as Freedom 13, led by a violent separatist named Daniel Monroe who is on the FBI’s most wanted list for dealing arms on the black market. The parents of one of the identified militia men, Bryan Fowler, have a property nearby - Ryan, Debra, Mike (who is back on duty but still has major bruising) and some backup go to check it out.
