Oh baby. You’d think lugging around a developing human being for nine months would be plenty of work on its own. But history has shown us it’s possible to be pregnant and perform stellar sketch comedy right up until the day you give birth.
Here are five funny cast members and hosts who proved that pregnancy and Saturday Night Live can be a fertile combination…
1 Amy Poehler
Poehler was pregnant when she performed her famous Hillary Clinton/Tina Fey sketch with Tina Fey. “When we were doing the sketch, Archie was doing somersaults in my stomach,” she says in Live From New York: The Complete, Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live, “I was thinking, ‘Wow, he knows this is really exciting.’”

It looks like “fetch” really is not going to happen, and Lacey Chabert, who memorably portrayed Gretchen Wieners in the teen classic Mean Girls, should stop trying to make it happen — according to her daughter, who naturally had no idea what the term referenced.
The Hallmark actress, who is parent to 8-year-old daughter Julia along with husband David Nehdar, told the Today show’s Hoda Kotb, “When she was younger, she was like, ‘What’s fetch, why does everyone say that to you?'”
“She asked me a couple years ago, ‘Mom, do other people watch those movies that you make?’ And I was like, ‘Yes, baby, they’re not just for you,'” she said, wrapping up the amusing anecdote.
Of course, fans of the 2004 Tina Fey hit will remember Gretchen’s unsupported efforts to make a slang word popular. In one scene of the film — which hilariously traces...

NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” has now won an astonishing 101 Emmy Awards, breaking its own massive record from the 1976 ceremony through 2024. As it now heads into a 50th season in a few weeks, the variety series took six trophies at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys and has three more nominations at Sunday’s event. It also has two more opportunities at next week’s Primetime event (Bowen Yang for supporting actor and Variety Scripted Series). The next closest show in second place is “Game of Thrones” with 59 overall.
At Saturday’s ceremony, it triumphed for hairstyling, makeup, production design and lighting design. Technically, it was technical direction category that was the 100th victory. Liz Patrick then won the 101st Emmy for Best Variety Series Directing.

Before each Saturday Night Live performance, Kristen Wiig would light a candle, she once told Kelly Clarkson. Amy Poehler shared her own pre-show ritual with Clarkson this week. “When Don Pardo would say my name,” Poehler explained, “I used to just take a moment and close my eyes for about a split second. Because that's about all the time you have at SNL. Molly Shannon used to do that — she told me about it so then I did it.”
Aww, sweet. But not as fun as another SNL tradition that Poehler revealed. It turns out the Parks and Rec star got Shannon’s office after she left the show, a fact evidenced by the scribbles Shannon left on the room’s walls. “Everyone would just kind of leave their name like summer camp,” Poehler said. “You'd write your name on the wall.”

Nikki Glaser is perhaps best known for being a comedian and an actress — and now a Golden Globes host — but did you know she’s also an accomplished singer? “It was the first dream I ever had in wanting to be a performer,” she revealed in 2022 after being voted out of “The Masked Singer” while wearing a Snowstorm costume (watch above). Glaser’s musical chops brought her all the way to the Semi-Finals during Season 8 of Fox’s wild and wacky reality TV, but alas, she was bested by Amber Riley as Harp and Wilson Phillips as Lambs.
As the hilarious Roast legend explained at the time, her dream of singing “was squashed at such a young age and it just became something that was not attainable to me.” She added, “When this opportunity came up, it was so perfect. I think what held me back was the fact that...

The Emmy-nominated comedian and actress Nikki Glaser has been tapped to host the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will air live January 5, 2025 for the second time on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes).”

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Easy to say until you’re the one Saturday Night Live is mocking.
What happens when SNL impressionists are forced to reckon with the consequences of their comedy? Lucky for the comics, most spoofed celebrities enjoy being in on the joke. But as you’ll see in these five examples, that isn’t always the case…
1 Jim Breuer and Joe Pesci
If you don’t count Goat Boy — and who does, really? — Joe Pesci was Breuer’s most popular character. Breuer played him nine times as host of the fictional Joe Pesci Show, portraying the actor as the Mafia goon he played in movies like Goodfellas.
“I grew up with some characters so I know that world exists,” Breuer explained on the Opie & Anthony Show. And when Pesci showed up for a cameo on SNL, he lived up to that reputation during a backstage visit with Breuer.

In 2002, author Rosalind Wiseman published a self-help book entitled “Queen Bees and Wannabes,” aimed at helping parents of high school-aged girls deal with the vicious effects of bullying on their daughters. Wiseman could not have possibly predicted what came next: that Tina Fey would a) read the book, b) see some of her own high school experience reflected back to her, and c) call up Lorne Michaels and suggest the non-fiction book would make a banger of a high school comedy. Some people have all the luck, don’t they?
What Fey saw in Wiseman’s relatively dry book was timeless — there have always been instances of “girl on girl crime,” and they sure as hell weren’t stopping — but when the comedic icon turned Wiseman’s work into the enduring early aughts offering “Mean Girls,...

My Hero Academia‘s conclusion got everyone emotional. A quirkless boy’s journey to be the greatest hero was inspiring. Kohei Horikoshi gave a wholesome end to Izuku Midoriya. After eight years, he became a teacher at UA, guiding future generations. Even after everything, the mangaka failed to introduce one character. Since the start of the manga, the fans eagerly wanted to see Deku’s father.
The manga took a decade to conclude, and then there was an eight-year time skip, yet there is no mention of his father. Kohei Horikoshi confirmed the appearance of his father in the future. The fans are upset after knowing that it was all a lie and the mangaka never bothered to reveal him.

Maya Rudolph and “Saturday Night Live” are reuniting once more. The former cast member will reprise her role as current vice president and 2024 presidential hopeful Kamala Harris, TheWrap has learned.
Rudolph will play the politician through the 2024 presidential election, and this is far from the first time she has portrayed Harris. She first played the VP in 2019 during the Season 45 premiere of the NBC comedy staple and has played Harris nine times so far. That first appearance saw her join Larry David as Bernie Sanders in the “Impeachment Town Hall” segment. Ryan Gosling‘s episode of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” from April instantly went viral, thanks in no small part to his habit of laughing during many (all?) of his sketches. “Beavis and Butt-Head” with Mikey Day, “Close Encounter Cold Open” with Kate McKinnon, “The Engagement” with Andrew Dismukes, “Doctor” with Bowen Yang, “Erin Brockovich” with Chloe Fineman … the list goes on and on. Gosling has now been nominated for his first-ever Emmy nomination in the category of Best Comedy Guest Actor, which begs the question: Can he giggle his way all the way to the winner’s podium?
Gosling’s co-nominees this year are Jon Bernthal (“The Bear”), Matthew Broderick (“Only Murders in the Building”), Christopher Lloyd (“Hacks”), Bob Odenkirk (“The Bear”) and Will Poulter (“The Bear”). Don’t get Donald Glover wrong — he had a great experience writing for 30 Rock. But when it came time to put together his own writers’ room for Atlanta, he said on this week’s episode of Hot Ones, “one thing at 30 Rock that I didn’t want as much of — because I feel like it was a thing from SNL — was fear.”
A writers’ room on a comedy show is inherently a scary place, Glover explained. He laughed as he remembered a seemingly innocuous moment from his early sitcom experience. “One time I came into the 30 Rock room, and I had a new hat on,” he said. “I just had a hat. They came in, and one of the writers goes, ‘Hat.’ And I couldn’t wear the hat! They’re just funny people. I was like, ‘You’re right. I was trying something new. I’m ashamed.

In the glamorous realm of Hollywood awards shows, few moments have gotten etched in history, like the playful banter between Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and their constant target, George Clooney. Other than acute behind-the-scenes anxiety, one of Saturday Night Live’s longest-running traditions is the “Five-Timers Club,” a prestigious clique for celebrities who have hosted the show at least five times.
But it turns out it’s all a lie. Wake up sheeple!
The Five-Timers Club obviously began as a joke, part of Tom Hanks’ opening monologue during his fifth SNL appearance in 1990. The mere suggestion that hosting SNL five times was a benchmark worthy of a membership card, a luxurious robe and access to “one of the most exclusive clubs in the world” was meant to be laughable. I mean, the first sketch literally finds Jon Lovitz taking lunch orders and throwing out Ralph Nader.
According to Robert Smigel, the inspiration for the sketch, which he co-wrote for Conan O’Brien, was Hanks’ impression of Lorne Michaels waxing poetically about what it’s like to host SNL each time. “I...

Will Forte (Bodkin) is also joining the show as a series regular, along with Colman Domingo (Rustin), Kerri Kenney-Silver (Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp), and Erika Henningsen (Girls5Eva).
The film — which was written and directed by Alan Alda and stars Alda, Carol Burnett, and Rita Moreno — follows three couples who vacation together every season but whose worlds are upended when one of them divorces.
Netflix has ordered eight episodes of the series, which is produced by Universal Television and will begin filming later in 2024.

Will Forte is checking into The Four Seasons comedy series starring Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and more
The upcoming reimagining of The Four Seasons needs to make some room because Will Forte is checking in. Universal Television is producing the all-new series adaptation from Tina Fey, Land Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. Forte joins Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Erika Henningsen for the show written by Fey, Fisher, and Wigfield.
The Four Seasons, a retread of the 1981 Universal movie of the same name, is a co-creation between Fey, her 30 Rock co-star Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. Details about Forte’s character remain a mystery, though the cast list for Alan Alda’s 1981 comedy could provide some clues. In 1981’s The Four Seasons, three couples vacation together every season. After one couple divorces, feelings of betrayal and more spawn criticisms of one another, but the things that keep them together are stronger than those that might tear them apart. When Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez announced their engagement in 2002, many people doubted their marriage would last. Their romance was under constant scrutiny and Lopez had just ended her second marriage. Affleck said that a joke Tina Fey made about them on Saturday Night Live was the perfect demonstration of how people felt about his relationship.
Ben Affleck shared the joke that represented the way the public felt about him and Jennifer Lopez
When Affleck proposed to Lopez, she was still not officially divorced from her second husband, Cris Judd. Because of this, Affleck knew their romance would be the subject of much criticism.
“There were a million reasons not to,” Affleck told Vanity Fair in 2003. “Neither of us is so obtuse that we didn’t understand the degree of skepticism, the amount of sniggering in how the joke would be received.”

There is something so delicious about biting into a comedy from the Tina Fey/Robert Carlock universe. “30 Rock,” of course, was the gold standard — and a show I find myself still quoting to this day. Team the Fey camp with Meredith Scardino, who cut her teeth on “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report,” and you get “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” another landmark show that helped Netflix define its smart comedy brand early in that streamer’s life.
Scardino was also part of the Fey/Carlock collab that gave us NBC’s “Mr. Mayor,” and I am still a bit angry that not enough people tuned into that sharp series. Ted Danson and Holly Hunter led a workplace comedy that delightfully skewered Los Angeles while setting up some amazing character dynamics.
But that’s not what this column is about. Yes, the short life of “Mr. Mayor” still stings. Instead,...

Tina Fey, the American actress known for “Saturday Night Live,” “Mean Girls,” “30 Rock,” and “Date Night,” stands at 5 feet 4 ½ inches (163.8 cm). This information comes directly from Fey, who corrected a common misconception about her height in an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, saying, “The Internet says I’m 5-foot-2. And I’m 5-4 and a half.”
She also mentioned her height in Glam in 2008. For context, the average American woman is around 5 feet 4 inches (162.5 cm). Therefore, Fey’s height is just slightly above this average, aligning her closely with the height of many American women.

Seth Meyers has got plenty more “A Closer Look”s coming. The SNL star-turned-late-night-talk-show-host has signed on to stay seated behind the desk of NBC’s Late Night through 2028.
NBCUniversal just announced the show’s renewal, alongside news that Meyers’ production company, Sethmaker Shoemeyers, has also extended its contract to continue creating content across the network’s many platforms.
Meyers has spent the bulk of his career working within 30 Rock. The comedian joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001, and was promoted to writing supervisor four years later. In 2005, Meyers began serving as SNL’s co-head writer alongside Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. When Fey departed the legendary sketch series in 2006, he took over her spot on “Weekend Update” and served as the show’s sole head writer for the next season.
Meyers, ever the workhorse, performed his final episode of SNL on February 1, 2014.

NBC is rolling out the red carpet to celebrate Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary.
Ahead of its upfront presentation next week to Madison Avenue ad buyers, the network on Friday announced that it has scheduled a three-hour primetime special to honor the anniversary. The special, which will also be live, is set to air Sunday, Feb. 16, from 8-11 p.m. Et.
That will cap what NBC says will be a “celebratory weekend” honoring the Lorne Michaels-created sketch show.
Additional details have not yet been announced as Michaels and company are in the home stretch of closing out SNL’s 49th season with alum Maya Rudolph set to host this weekend and Jake Gyllenhaal on deck for the May 18 season finale.
News that NBC would formally celebrate SNL’s 50th anniversary comes as no surprise as Michaels said last January that he was already planning for the February event.

After the end of strikes, agents, managers and producers quickly moved in to assemble high-profile packages to take out in what was expected to be a frothy marketplace following six months of inactivity. But, while there have been a few bidding wars and big sales with a couple of others pending, the level of demand has not been what many anticipated. The biggest casualty of the tight market — packages with A-list stars attached.
“This has been such a head-scratcher,” one agent said about the situation. Agencies are keeping record of all the star packages that went out and failed to draw interest over the past few months despite the level of talent that has included Oscar and Emmy winners and nominees in front or behind the camera, stars of blockbuster movies and iconic TV series and, in a couple of instances, famous IP. The total now exceeds 20.

The Haunted Hotel feels like an unabashed reminiscence of my childhood. I’m sure a lot of us have watched cringe-worthy Bollywood horror movies from the 2010s, but never had I thought I’d be coming across something so embarrassingly similar ever again. The Haunted Hotel is indeed quite haunting in that regard. Not too sure about the jumpscare part, though. Through its obvious screenplay, this movie gives away the climax sooner than it wants to.

Seth Meyers is sharing his thoughts on rumors that Lorne Michaels is ready to bid farewell to Saturday Night Live and retiring from the NBC late-night sketch show.
The Late Night host recently made an appearance on Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out, where the podcast host asked Meyers about Michaels leaving SNL.
“Are you gonna take over for Lorne, or is it Tina [Fey] and then you?” Birbiglia asked, to which Meyers responded, “I think this is a false narrative that Lorne is going anywhere.”
Meyers was a head writer at SNL and worked on the sketch show between 2001 and 2014. The actor doesn’t think Michaels was completely serious when he said he wanted to retire from the comedy show after its 50th season.
“I think it made sense for Lorne — who’s, yeah, got a flair for the dramatic — to say, ‘I think I’ll be done at 50,'” Meyers said.

Girls5eva has been picked up by Netflix for season three, in a move that its stars and creator are viewing as a chance to find new audiences and continue telling the story of the revived pop group.
“It’s a relief. I’m so grateful,” said Sara Bareilles, one of the stars of the musical comedy, “We had so much fun making the season and getting to move platforms and broaden our audience, getting a chance to continue the story of these women. When we left it at season two, we were all sort of living in the question of ‘Are we going to get to be with them again?’ and we just had such a beautiful experience making the show.”
At the New York premiere, which was held at Netflix’s Paris Theater Thursday evening, Bareilles and co-stars Busy Philipps, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Paula Pell, as well as executive producers Meredith Scardino,...

Back in May 2021, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles returned to the Hollywood Bowl to promote a new album. At one point, she invited her “Girls5eva” co-stars — Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell and Busy Philipps — to join her onstage. The quartet performed the song “4 Stars” from the comedy, marking the first and only time they’ve sung together in public.
But here’s the rub: This was the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, and all 17,500 seats around the Hollywood Bowl were empty. Bareilles’ concert was being livestreamed, and the cast had no idea what the fans at home felt about their performance.
Which sounds a lot like the fate of “Girls5eva” itself. The comedy was one of the first original series on Peacock, but on a nascent streamer, the audiences weren’t huge. Critics and a small cadre of fans embraced the Tina Fey-produced comedy, but it never caught on with a broader viewership.
