Surviving a horror movie requires a sheer will of the heart. Not everyone is equipped with the determination and skillset to rise above it all and conquer their monster. With summer still hanging around for another couple weeks, it’s a perfect time for some survival instincts to kick in with two of the best creature features in recent times. Both 2019 features, J. D. Dillard’s Sweetheart and Alexandre Aja’s Crawl see their lead characters fighting tooth and nail to survive not only the elements but creatures beyond their wildest imaginations.
In Sweetheart‘s heart-pounding adventure, Jenn (Kiersey Clemons) awakens to find herself stranded on a deserted island. Crystal waves slap against her skin, as she lies lifeless on the island’s idyllic shoreline. The greenery meets the baby blue sky in a cataclysmic explosion. The serenity gathers around her feet, yet the fear hangs off her face like ripped flesh.

This is the seventh year that Armani has been the official beauty sponsor of the Venice International Film Festival, getting actresses from Cate Blanchett to Sydney Sweeney red carpet ready. The festival kicked off on Aug. 28 and will continue until Sept. 7, with stars including Blanchett, Clara Galle, Kaya Scodelario and Ncuti Gatwa — as well as some festival guests — touched up in the brand’s Luminous Silk line.
Armani is hoisted up with its own luxurious beauty suite at the Excelsior Hotel on the island of Lido. This year the brand’s beauty products on display are the Luminous Silk foundation and the Luminous Silk Acqua highlighter — which hasn’t launched yet but was a pre-launch just for the festival. It works to blend the complexion, giving it a glow, while the Prisma Glass lip gloss with its oil-in-glass technology gives the face multidimensional volume and shine.

At a Friday afternoon press conference, Nicole Kidman said that the anticipation of presenting the world premiere of her new erotic thriller Babygirl had her feeling “exposed and vulnerable and frightened.” But those emotions certainly were not on display as the Oscar-winning actress hit the red carpet at Palazzo del Cinema in Venice later that night.
Kidman looked every bit like the confident movie star as she faced the crush of photographers, press and adoring fans in an avant-garde couture creation by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli. Fans lining the barricade erupted with cheers as she made her entrance in a striking ensemble that featured a corset bustier in nude organza embroidered with black sequins that cascaded into black fringes. The look was paired with a long black velvet skirt and stilettos. Kidman greeted her director Halina Reijn, dressed in a white cape, and the two gathered for a warm embrace.

One of Netflix's hottest shows of 2024 has gotten a second-season renewal! Here's what we know so far on The Gentlemen Season 2!
Fans of Netflix are used to the streamer sadly canceling some great shows after one season. So it's a bit of a surprise to hear one is getting renewed just five months after appearing. However, it shows that The Gentlemen has become a hot series for fans.
Created by famed director Guy Ritchie, the movie is loosely based on his 2019 film of the same name. It follows Eddie Horniman (Theo James), a Sas officer who returns to his English estate when his father dies. Eddie is shocked when he's named the heir to the place over older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings). That's because Freddie is a drug-addicted moron who's millions of pounds in debt to local mobsters.
Eddie soon discovers that his father is growing a cannabis farm...

The show was an instant hit on the streamer, and so it’s little surprise that there’ll be more to come from its world of gangsters, barons, and wheeler-dealers. Netflix has confirmed that The Gentlemen will officially return for Season 2, continuing the exploits of Theo James’ ‘Captain’ Eddie and Kaya Scodelario’s Susie.
Details for what exactly Season 2 will bring are scarce for now, but reports indicate that James and Scodelario are expected to return – and Ritchie will be back as both writer and director, penning scripts alongside co-writer Matthew Read. Although hesitant to join the criminal lifestyle at first, he develops a taste for it and finds an unexpected ally in Susie as they face down the UK and Europe’s most notorious and hilarious gangster families. Alexandre Aja is returning for more alligator action as Crawl 2 starts taking shape at Paramount. More on the sequel below.
2019’s Crawl was an effective thriller in which Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper found themselves going head-to-head with some nasty alligators. The film scared up an impressive $91.5m at the box office on a budget of just $14m.
Talks about a sequel started almost right away, but the last we heard about any concrete plans was in 2021 when director Alexandre Aja talked about the possibility of returning to gator-infested waters with a brand new story and new characters.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Aja is officially on board for Crawl 2 and Paramount Pictures is looking to shoot the film this fall in Europe. Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan are on script duties, but there’s no official word on the plot yet. However, THR seems to have sources who...

As this morning’s Emmy nominations prove, there may be less TV being made nowadays, but the quality certainly hasn’t declined with the quantity.
As widely expected, The Bear, Baby Reindeer, True Detective: Night Country and Shōgun were mentioned more than once by past Emmy winners Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale on Wednesday morning. As Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said, “it was an exceptional year in television.” It certainly seemed exceptional that, for the first time in a long while, the names Succession and Ted Lasso were not heard when the nominations were read, as those multiple winners have wrapped up their runs.

Emerald Fennell, who wrote and directed Saltburn, had set her next project, an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights.
The novel, which was first published in 1847, deals with “Heathcliff, an orphan-turned-foster-son who falls in love with the daughter of the family who owns the estate on which he now lives, Wuthering Heights. After running away, Heathcliff rises up through the ranks of the gentry and exacts revenge on the families — the Earnshaws and the Lintons — who kept him from his true love.” Although some early reviews didn’t quite know what to make of the novel, it has since been accepted as one of the greatest English-language novels of all time.

After a stint as an obnoxious, loud American in The White Lotus, Theo James wanted to challenge himself by playing someone totally different. Enter Eddie Horniman, the reserved, British Duke thrown into an aristocratic weed-growing empire in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen. Not only was this an opportunity for a Godfather-style ascension story and a chance to work with the Lock, Stock director, but James was also excited to take some pot shots at the gentry that owns so much British land — much to the bemusement of the real-life Duke of Beaufort, whose estate was the location for the shoot.

While Guy Ritchie’s brand new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare isn’t doing as well as everybody wished in the box office, a real lifesaver has already come to the director’s rescue.
Four years after its theatrical release, Ritchie’s action comedy hit The Gentlemen is finally available to stream on Netflix — and the timing for the movie’s arrival couldn’t be better.
Having a star-studded cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Hugh Grant, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong and many others, the film follows American cannabis wholesaler Michael ‘Mickey’ Pearson who seeks to sell his weed empire so that he and his wife Rosalind, portrayed by Michelle Dockery, could spend the rest of their life carelessly.

Vin Diesel is set to enter production on Riddick: Furya, the anticipated fourth installment of the Riddick franchise, on August 26.
Shooting in Germany, Spain and the U.K., this follow-up to the sci-fi films Pitch Black (2000), The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013) reunites Diesel with writer-director David Twohy. Diesel reprises his role as the anti-hero Richard B. Riddick, a dangerous escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the galaxy.
In Riddick: Furya, Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.
Diesel will produce for One Race Films, alongside Samantha Vincent. Thorsten Schumacher for Rocket Science and Lars Sylvest for Thank You Studios will also produce alongside Joe Neurauter.

Jack Paglen (Transcendence) is in talks to write a new Maze Runner film for 20th Century Studios, Deadline can confirm.
While details as to the plot of the film are under wraps for the moment, it’s described as a continuation of the story of the last three films, released between 2014 and 2018, rather than a direct sequel.
Based on the dystopian YA book series by James Dashner, The Maze Runner takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where a group of young survivors must navigate deadly mazes, treacherous landscapes, and sinister organizations as they uncover the truth about their past and fight for their freedom. Wes Ball directed the original 2014 film, as well as sequels Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), all ahead of Disney’s acquisition of Fox. Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario starred in the films, which grossed over $948 million worldwide in total.
