A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, a set pic has just arrived online to give us a look at a blood spattered Lutz wearing a version of the character’s iconic bikini armor. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

It's been quite a while since we had any official updates on Millennium Films' Red Sonja reboot, but the movie's Instagram page has now shared a new behind-the-scenes photo of Revenge star Matilda Lutz as the She-Devil with a Sword.
As you can see, Lutz's armour is pretty faithful to the later comic book depictions of the character (the skimpy chain-mail bikini was never gonna happen), and she also appears to be sporting Sonja's signature face-paint.
After over a decade spent attempting to get the project moving with multiple writers and directors attached at various different stages, Millennium finally managed to put its Red Sonja reboot into production in 2022, with Solomon Kane director M.J. Bassett at the helm and Lutz taking over from Ant-Man and the Wasp and Thunderbolts* actress Hannah John Kamen as the fearsome warrior of the title.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, and while the video game adaptation wrapped production back in January after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes, it sounds like they’re doing some reshoots at the moment. Ludi Lin reprises the role of Liu Kang in the new film, and while doing the press rounds for the martial arts movie Art of Eight Limbs, where he co-stars with former TV Spider-Man Nicholas Hammond, Lin took a moment to hype Mortal Kombat 2 to the folks at Screen Rant, saying the sequel is bigger and better than its predecessor, and that Karl Urban’s performance as popular video game character Johnny Cage will “blow your socks off.”
The screenplay for Mortal Kombat 2 has been written by Jeremy Slater, who was the lead writer on the Marvel / Disney+ series Moon Knight.

We're still waiting (and probably will be for a while longer) on a first look at some footage from Warner Bros./New Line's Mortal Kombat 2, but producer and co-creator of the iconic video game series, Ed Boon, has now taken to social media to share a teasing glimpse of one of the new characters who'll be debuting in the sequel, Kitana.
Her face is kept hidden, but we do get a look at the fan-favorite fighter's signature weapon and costume. Kitana will be played by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actress Adeline Rudolph.
The Netflix series marked Rudolph's screen debut, but the Hong Kong-born model-turned-actress has also appeared in the CW’s Riverdale and Netflix’s Resident Evil series. She is also set to play the female lead in Millennium’s Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
Boon also revealed that he has seen an unfinished cut of the movie.

Whenever we think about blood, gore, and intense violence, only one name pops up in our mind: Mortal Kombat. NetherRealm’s iconic franchise is extremely popular among gamers and features some of the best fighting experiences ever. On the flip side, the Mortal Kombat movie, released in 2021, wasn’t that big of a success.
However, that hasn’t stopped Warner Bros. from taking a second chance and releasing another movie. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 is a fresh start and features big names Karl Urban and Jessica McNamee. While that’s all good, Warner Bros. has completely dropped the ball by not casting Dwayne Johson as Shao Kahn.

Simon McQuoid’s 2021 feature directorial debut with the martial arts fantasy film Mortal Kombat has certainly created a splash among fans but it was far from having an impressive box office gross. Still, New Line Cinema alongside Atomic Monster and Broken Road Productions is bringing a sequel to the first movie with Warner Brothers distributing the movie.
Sisi Stringer as Mileena in Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2 hype is quite promising as the movie will bring back the essence of the action-adventure fighting video game series, Mortal Kombat. However, fans have one subtle demand for the studio asking the makers not to repeat one critical mistake in the sequel of the action movie.
Mortal Kombat 2 Will Be “Way Bigger” Hiroyuki Sanada in Mortal Kombat
The preparation of the movie following the announcement has been long, perhaps, this time Warner Brothers are expecting more appealing sequences embedded into the narrative.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow gets 2026 release date, with Mortal Kombat 2 hitting theaters next year
Warner Bros. has announced the official release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with the Dcu movie set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Additionally, the studio unveiled release dates for several of its other big movies, including Mortal Kombat 2, which will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will star Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) in the title role, with the film set to be scripted by Ana Nogueira and based on the Tom King comic series of the same name. DC Studios is wasting no time in setting a release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow now that the movie has found its director.
The high-profile movie will fly into cinemas on June 26, 2026, DC and Warner Bros. announced Tuesday. It is the second film to receive a release date since James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to overhaul DC under the new banner DC Studios. The first was Superman, which Gunn is currently shooting for a July 2025 release date.
Flimmaker Craig Gillespie was tapped by Gunn and Safran to shepherd Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon). She’ll play Superman’s Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman. The feature film, from a script by Ana Nogueira, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic, and will depart from the earnest take on the character seen on the CW Supergirl series.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, which recently wrapped production after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes. This film will be bringing popular video game character Johnny Cage to the screen, with Karl Urban of Dredd, Star Trek, and The Boys taking on the role. Despite Urban’s established awesomeness, he was an unexpected choice for Johnny Cage, and there are some fans who have let it be known that they would have chosen someone else to play the part. Karl Urban marked the end of filming on Simon McQuoid‘s upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 on his Instagram, calling it “the most action packed fun I’ve ever had” on a film. Urban, who plays Johnny Cage in the follow-up to the 2021 film, also took the opportunity to show himself sans beard, which he’ll no doubt be growing back for The Boys, which will be returning for Season 4 later this year.

It’s been two years since the release of the live action Mortal Kombat reboot, and a sequel is on the way soon. Filming on Mortal Kombat 2 actually kicked off earlier this summer, you may recall, but it didn’t last long due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on at the time. But have no fear, because production on the movie sequel gets back underway real soon.

He writes in a follow-up tweet, “I promise I will keep the Mk Kommunity posted as soon as I have info on start date, etc. Everyone else is just speculating… or posting for clicks.”

The release of Mortal Kombat 1 is just around the corner, and it was confirmed today that Megan Fox has lent her voice to Nitara. The vampire comes from the realm of Vaeternus and joins the fight to protect her race. You can check out a gruesome gameplay video of Nitara in action below, which also features Megan Fox talking about joining the Mortal Kombat franchise.
“She comes from this weird realm, she is a type of vampire creature,” Megan Fox said in the video. “She’s evil but she’s also good. She’s trying to save her people. I really like her. She’s a vampire which obviously resonates for whatever reason. It’s cool to be in the game, you know? Because I’m not really just voicing it, it’ll be like she’s kind of me.“

A couple weeks ago, Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid rounded out the cast of the sequel – which is apparently simply titled Mortal Kombat II. Last weekend, we saw a picture of several cast members in a restaurant together. And now Ludi Lin (who plays Liu Kang in these new films) took to Instagram to reveal that filming has officially started! He shared pictures of a clapperboard and his salad, and those can be seen at the bottom of this article.
The screenplay for Mortal Kombat II has been written by Jeremy Slater, who was the lead writer on the Marvel / Disney+ series Moon Knight. Last year, Slater said that working on the project had been “really fun so far. … I’m working really closely with the director and the studios, and the game guys, and I think—I can’t say anything about the actual story, but I think they...

Producer James Wan revealed last night on Ig that filming is officially underway on Mortal Kombat 2, which has Simon McQuoid returning to the director’s seat from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater (“The Exorcist,” “Moon Knight”).
Martyn Ford (“The Sandman”), Desmond Chiam (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), Ana Thu Nguyen (Suka) and Damon Herriman (House of Wax, The Nightingale) signed on a few weeks ago to play Shao Kahn, Edenian King Jerrod, Queen Sindel, and Netherrealm demon Quan Chi respectively.
It’s interesting to note that Herriman previously voiced the role of Kabal in the 2021 film.
Newcomers to the sequel also include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
Plot details remain scarce for the sequel, though the new cast additions continue to signal a bigger, bloodier affair packed with fatalities.

Mortal Kombat 2 recently started filming in Australia and producer Todd Garner shared a photo of the cast enjoying a meal. If you take a look at the photo, you’ll see Karl Urban sporting some frosted tips and a more clean-shaven face to play Johnny Cage.

Johnny Cage is an action movie star and martial artist who first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat game released in 1992. The character didn’t appear in the recent Mortal Kombat movie, but a post-credit scene teased that he would be on his way. It was announced earlier this year that Karl Urban was in talks to play Johnny Cage. I’m excited to see the actor in costume for the first time, but I have no doubt that he’s going to knock the role out of the park.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is returning to the helm for the sequel that we’ll refer to as Mortal Kombat 2 until someone tells us otherwise. Filming on this follow-up is expected to begin soon (unless the writers strike causes a delay), and over the last month and a half McQuoid has been steadily building up his cast. The Boys star Karl Urban has been cast to play Johnny Cage; Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) is set to play Princess Kitana; and Tati Gabrielle (You) is taking on the role of Jade, the friend and bodyguard of Princess Kitana. Now Deadline reports that four more actors have joined the cast, filling the roles of Outworld emperor Shao Kahn, Kahn’s wife Queen Sindel, Netherrealm demon Quan Chi, and Jerrod, who was the King of Edenia (and married to Sindel) until Edenia’s warriors lost in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

Bert Kreischer is living proof that truth is stranger than fiction.
In the mid-’90s, Kreischer went on a Florida State class trip to Russia, and to make a long story short, the Russian mafia forced the 22-year-old college kid to rob a passenger train that included his classmates. The Florida native somehow made it out of Russia unscathed, and after enough time had passed, he began telling the story on radio shows and podcasts until it became the focus of his viral stand-up comedy special, The Machine, in 2016. A few years later, Kreischer sold a movie version of The Machine to Legendary Entertainment’s Cale Boyter, who boiled the indirect pitch down to “The Godfather Part II meets The Hangover.”
The film’s premise revolves around Bert and his father, Albert (Mark Hamill), getting kidnapped by a Russian gangster (Iva Babić) as a form of payback for Bert stealing...

Plot: Set 23 years after the original story which inspired it, The Machine finds Bert Kreischer facing familial crisis and the arrival of his estranged father when the ghost of his booze-soaked past arrives: a murderous mobster hellbent on kidnapping Bert back to the motherland to atone for his crimes. Together, he and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self in the midst of a war between a sociopathic crime family while they attempt to find common ground.
Review: This weekend boasts two theatrical films featuring stand-up comedians with dedicated fanbases in stories about their relationship with their father. Both Sebastian Maniscalco and Bert Kreischer have performed elements of the stories at the core of their big-screen adventures, but the results could not be further apart. While About My Father is a wholesome bromance centered on the culture clash of two families, The Machine is a balls-to-the-wall action...

"Bert - take off that shirt and show those SOBs who you really are!" Sony Pictures has revealed the full red band trailer for the wild and crazy comedy movie The Machine, from comedy filmmaker Peter Atencio, known for directing "Key & Peele" and their film Keanu previously. We featured the teaser last fall, now get ready for the entire story. From Legendary Pictures, this is an adaptation of comedian Bert Kreischer's crazy (true?) story of that time he was an exchange student in Russia. He ended up studying Russian at university and while on a trip there got the nickname "The Machine" because of his mad drinking abilities. Then he unwittingly helped the Russian mafia with a train robbery. Bert's drunken past then catches up with him 20 years down the road when he and his father are kidnapped by those Bert wronged 20 years ago while drunk on a college semester abroad.

The upcoming “Red Sonja" live-action feature, directed by M.J. Bassett ("Solomon Kane"), based on Robert E. Howard's character 'Red Sonya of Rogatino', reimagined in 1973 by writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics, stars Matilda Lutz, Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El Feitury and Katrina Durden:
Originally, Robert E. Howard's 'Sonya of Rugantino', was a female pirate from the 16th century, debuting in Howard's short story "The Shadow of the Vulture" in "Magic Carpet" magazine (1934).

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production last year with director M.J. Today The Hollywood Reporter posted an interesting article about how Red Sonja was able to escape from development hell… and it basically boils down to a director’s enthusiasm for the material and a producer’s desperation to get the movie made.
The 50-something Bassett says she has been borderline obsessed with Red Sonja since her childhood, and “I cursed every time they announced someone else (as director). I kept telling them, ‘When you change again, let me know.’” And they did let her know when Soloway...

Sometimes, comedians tell stories that are much too funny to be true. Surely no one's life actually contains mind-boggling hijinks, quotable one-liners, and situations that so carefully toe the line between hilarious and life-threatening? And yet, Bert Kreischer walks among us, living a life that sounds more akin to an R-rated comedy than reality. Which is why it makes so much sense that his stories keep getting grafted onto the big screen.
Here's where it started: when Kreischer was in college in the late '90s, he became the topic of a Rolling Stone article that dubbed him "the top partyer at the Number One Party School." That story not only gave him the push he needed to move to NYC and pursue a career in stand-up comedy but also served as the inspiration for National Lampoon's Van Wilder. Just like that — thanks to some Hollywood magic — Kreischer's life became a movie.

Near the end of August, it was announced that the long-awaited Red Sonja reboot was filming with M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) directing and Matilda Lutz (Revenge) taking on the lead role. In early September, we heard that Oliver Trevena (The Rising Hawk) had joined Lutz in the cast – and Trevena’s character was the only one, other than Red Sonja herself, we ever got a description of. The actor had been cast as Tr’aal, “a gladiator-type warrior who joins Sonja in her fight against an evil emperor”. Unfortunately Deadline reports that Trevena has since had to drop out of Red Sonja due to scheduling issues. They also report that Rhona Mitra of Doomsday and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is in the cast, but no details about her character have been revealed.
