Ioncinema.com’s Ioncinephile of the Month feature focuses on an emerging filmmaker from the world of cinema. This October, we put the spotlight on an indie personality who moonlights as a film critic/writer for the likes of The Village Voice and Filmmaker Magazine and who saw his feature film debut land in 2014 SXSW Film Festival’s Narrative Feature competition. Toplined by John Gallagher Jr. (Short Term 12) and Kate Lyn Sheil (Listen Up Philip) with supporting players in the shape of David Call (Gabriel), Katie Paxton and Louisa Krause (Bluebird), The Heart Machine (October 24th limited release/VOD FilmBuff) is according to the glowing remarks made in the trades with Variety calling it “thoroughly modern without being ostentatious” and THR dissecting it as “a thoughtful, emotionally tricky debut”. This month we profile Zachary Wigon — be sure to check out his top ten films of all time.

Winter is upon us in full swing and though I personally can not wait until the warmer seasons the Winter of late 2010 can not get here fast enough. Why you ask? Well come the end of this year, Disney releases Tron Legacy, the long awaited sequel to their 1982 cult hit Tron. There's little buzz amongst the general movie public about this film, but just like the recent smash success Avatar, I'm sure Disney's marketing strategy involves revealing more about the sequel bit by bit. I'm pretty sure that by this summer's end, it will be a greatly anticipated movie event among audiences. For die-hards like me, there is a wealth of information and even back-story to be found about the film's plot. (See for yourself and visit Flynn Lives.com.) The official synopsis reads:Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father...

The Last Airbender
Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: It has been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan, who started it as a household name with the label of a modern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit...
