I always thought that Olivia, Frasier’s relationship-obsessed boss at Harvard, was meant to be a Boston stand-in for his former Seattle radio show producer, Roz Doyle.
That is, at least I did until Roz actually showed up in Frasier Season 2 Episode 3.
I was almost as surprised as Frasier was when the “student” waiting in his office turned out to be Roz.
(Chris Haston/Paramount+) Back So Soon?
I felt like we’d just seen Roz in the Season 1 finale, and enough time hadn’t yet passed for another visit of hers to make sense. But I’m not complaining!
It’s hard to believe that Roz’s daughter Alice is now a graduate student in Rhode Island. Where does the time go, and why don’t we see her in Boston more often??
No matter how flimsy the excuse, it was a joy to see Roz back in Boston...

George Brown, the co-founder, drummer, and songwriter for Kool & the Gang, died Thursday, Nov. 16, after a battle with cancer. He was 74.
A rep for Kool & the Gang confirmed Brown’s death in a statement shared with Rolling Stone. Brown’s family asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Lung Cancer Society of America in his honor.
Aptly nicknamed “Funky,” Brown not only provided the backbeat to Kool & the Gang’s many indelible funk and disco era hits but also helped write them. Brown’s co-writing credits include favorites like “Ladies Night,...

Conflict drives drama. What people want and how they set out to get it makes for the best entertainment: Chief Brody wants to make Amity Island a safe place for his kids; Indiana Jones wants to find the Ark of the Covenant; Mark Watney wants to survive on Mars, A giant shark, a bunch of Nazis, and a planet without an atmosphere respectively stand in their way.

Tuesday was Ladies' Night on American Idol, but on Wednesday the judges turned their attention to the guys. "We just have a new breed of musician and singer coming up," judge Jennifer Lopez told Ryan Seacrest before the performances began.
The show repeated its head-scratching formula from Tuesday, only allowing 10 of the Top 15 guys to perform on stage, with virtually no explanation for viewers as to why the remaining five got cut. Former judge Randy Jackson, as well as alums Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry, also all returned as mentors.

Once upon a time on "New Girl," there was a fitness trainer roommate named Coach. Unfortunately, the actor who played Coach, Damon Wayans Jr., got himself cast in a lead role on "Happy Endings." He disappeared, replaced semi-seamlessly by Winston.
Now, "Happy Endings" is off the air (sigh), and Coach is back in town!
But will his return mean everything that his former roommates have dreamed of for two years? Not so much. The guy doesn't even remember Jess. What does come with "Coach"? Find out in this recap.
Coach and his boys
To say that the boys of "New Girl" are excited to see Coach is an understatement. You have to wonder why though -- Coach seems to be kind of a jerk. He is dismissive of Nick's relationship, calls Winston "Shrimp Hands" for no discernible reason and completely disregards the existence of Jess.
Also, Coach wants to go...

Now that Lazaro Arbos has gone home (finally) to set his sights on Glee (please, no!) it's Ladies' Night every night on American Idol. If there's one way to ensure that this year's winner isn't another white guy with a guitar, having no guys left in the competition is certainly it.
Tonight the ladies will sing a song from their year of birth and then sing a song by a Diva, with a head nod from Ryan to Mariah. Will anyone be brave enough to pick a song by Mimi? We'll see...
Round One: Songs From the Year They Were Born (aka, the round that makes me feel old)
Candice Glover was born in 1989. She's chosen a song by former Idol judge, Paula Abdul: "Straight Up Now Tell Me." This is a really interesting take on the song. It's a little Bluesy with an infusion of something I can't quite put my finger on.

It was Ladies' Night on American Idol Wednesday, with the Top 5 females each performing two songs — one from the year of their birth (get ready to feel old, Idol viewers) and one by a diva. The competition is now officially on, with none of those pesky guys hogging votes in what has been universally acknowledged as a girl's year. So who became the front-runner going into Thursday's results show? Here's a breakdown of the performances:

Over here in Rusty-land it's one of those Wednesday that seems to be taking forever but at the same time every so often I'll look up at the clock and be like "wait, it's what time now? Crap." I find this to be a particular problem with Wednesdays, perhaps because of the transition from first half of the week to second half of the week at least if you're going by the standard Monday to Friday week schedule. Although perhaps I should be more upbeat since according to today's xkcd Wednesday is frequently Ladies' night. Oh, right, there's also some television going on. A few of those reality series that some of you adore, so that's cool. So, here's your Wednesday night TV, which will be on both forever from now and sooner than I think it will:

(S08E13) Jack Bauer may be the star of '24,' but this week it was Ladies' Night -- or maybe the expression should be Ladies' Hour in this case. Regardless, it was the fairer sex that did the ass-kicking and the ass-saving this week. More impressively, this was accomplished without a single appearance by President Allison Taylor.

I sincerely hope by the end of tonight's American Idol I feel inspired to sing Kool & The Gang's classic song "Ladies' Night," rather than reaching for the Tylenol.
With four eliminations down, we've almost gotten rid of the contestants who can't sing, and certainly a couple who could. So, I'm hopeful that the only tone deaf singing that will happen tonight will be me at 6pm cawing, "Oh yes it's ladies night. And the feeling's right. Oh yes it's ladies night. Oh what a night." Lucky for you, and the rest of America, that will be a private performance that only my cats will be tortured with.

Fingers crossed America, if you thought last week was a disaster, tonight has the makings of a repeat performance. We all know that Tuesday is Ladies' Night on Idol, but tonight, with little warning it's the fellas' of season 9 who will be taking the stage. Word broke this afternoon that an unidentified medical issue would prevent Crystal Bowersox from performing, so the guys proved that chivalry is not in fact dead, by sacrificing a day of practice to perform.
We're glad to know the season 9 fellas' would be the type of guys who opened the door for you, but we're not nearly as excited about how they'll do with one less day of practice. Watch along with me tonight as this "freaky Friday" edition of American Idol unfolds and the remaining top 10 guys are tested. Do they have what it takes to survive in the ever-changing life of a live performer?...

I may have been grumbling about Greek in the Queerview of late, but this week's episode managed to charm me for being so very gay. It included the follow-up to Rebecca's sexual confusion after kissing Robin, giving Calvin a little more to do, and a glimpse of Ladies' Night at local gay bar Gentlemen's Choice. It also left me wondering a bit about Max.
While I've been frustrated with insufficient amounts of Calvin in recent episodes, this week's installment provided a good appetizer for the season finale where he meets up with his new love interest, earning it an up arrow. If you venture any further, however, be wary of the Spoilers below.
Overall, the episode is all about secrets and closets. Not only does Rebecca try to figure out what to think of her kiss with Robin, Fisher is pushing Ashleigh to make their relationship public (including a scene...

Stone Village project brings great pleasure
NEW YORK -- Scott Steindorff's Stone Village Pictures is producing The Anatomist, writer-director Gabriela Tagliavini's adaptation of a controversial comic novel based on the true story of the 16th century surgeon who discovered the clitoris.
"It's a story that continues to be a mystery to many men," jokes Tagliavini, who directed the 2003 Spanish-language hit comedy Ladies' Night.
Federico Andahazi's book caused controversy in the author's native Argentina but won the prestigious Fortabat Foundation award in 1997 for best first novel by an Argentine, only to have sponsor Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat rescind the award when she learned about the subject matter.
Andahazi's book tells the fictionalized life story of Mateo Colombo, an "anatomist" whose desire for a high-priced Italian courtesan leads him to search for the physical source of love. During the course of the script, Colombo escapes execution during the Spanish Inquisition, cures the pope, pens a controversial book and creates a "treatment" that causes women to fall for him.
