This upcoming Sunday, HBO will air the first episode of Dune: Prophecy, a new TV series set in Frank Herbert's Dune universe. But don't expect to see Paul Atreides anywhere; this show is set 10,000 years before the events of the first Dune book, adapted recently by director Denis Villeneuve for the big screen. Dune: Prophecy takes place in the shadow of the Machine Wars, where humanity fought against violent thinking machines and just barely won. Now, various schools are cropping up to teach human beings to do things that computers used to do. One of those schools is the Bene Gesserit sisterhood, where women are trained to be human lie detectors. Sisters are then placed in the halls of power alongside the leaders of the great houses. Are they serving truth, or are they subtly massaging events in the Sisterhoods' favor?

After its premiere on Netflix back in 2020, Outer Banks became a viral global sensation, and with the release of its fourth season this fall, the teen adventure series remains one of the most popular shows on the streamer. While you wait for the forthcoming fifth and final season, you might be looking for another show or two to binge-watch.
In Outer Banks, the Pogues go on dangerous treasure hunting adventures that find them in deep trouble with their intimidating enemies as well as the law. There's honestly nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of Obx out there that isn't supernatural, but a lot of shows tackle similar themes, whether its class, relationships, friendships, mortality, and more.
Looking for a lineup of shows to binge-watch until the Pogues return for their last ride? Here's four good shows that should scratch the teen drama and action-adventure itch!

“Agatha All Along” has come and gone, and sadly, we must march ever forward. But you don’t have to do that without some good shows to watch. In fact, showrunner Jac Schaeffer has a few recommendations for you to watch that specifically inspired “Agatha.”
Marvel’s latest series, like its predecessor, is full of twists and turns and even a few jumps in time. It draws inspiration from both real life witchcraft and witches of pop culture.
Not all of these will be witchy, but according to Schaeffer, they’re definitely “touchstones for me and the kind of storytelling I do with these puzzle box shows.
So, here are five shows to watch next.

At the end of September, JoBlo Media and Octane Multimedia teamed up to launch a new YouTube channel named JoBlo TV, which hosts multiple feature films to watch for free throughout the week. The genres we’ll be focusing on at JoBlo TV are Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers – and the movie we shared this week is a genre-bender (or blender) that’s described as a sci-fi horror comedy!

Deadline reports that Scott Adkins (John Wick: Chapter 4) has joined the cast of Rip, Joe Carnahan’s (Narc) upcoming crime thriller for Netflix. The film is set to star Matt Damon (Oppenheimer) and Ben Affleck (The Accountant 2) and follows a “team of Miami cops whose trust begins to fray when they discover millions in cash in a derelict stash house. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything for the team is called into question — including who they can rely on.“
In the movie, Adkins is set to play Affleck’s brother, and looking at the picture above… I can buy it. There’s definitely a resemblance. The rest of the cast includes Catalina Sandino Moreno (From), Néstor Carbonell (Lost), Sasha Calle (The Flash), Teyana Taylor (A Thousand and One), and Kyle Chandler (Lanterns). In addition to directing Rip, Carnahan also wrote the script.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe came back in a big way in 2024, and after complaints that superhero fatigue was tanking the world’s highest-grossing franchise, it seems all we needed was a bit of camp to bring things back around. Despite the lauded legacy of Jac Schaeffer’s WandaVision, the idea of focusing an entire spinoff on Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness seemed like a gamble. Boasting a diverse cast of LGBTQ+ actors and promises from Aubrey Plaza (Aubrey Plaza) that it would be a "gay explosion" meant that fans had to deal with the usual cries that the MCU has gone ‘woke.’
Thankfully, while The Marvels felt the wrath of those unable to handle a movie led by women, Agatha All Along has defied expectations. From debuting one of the most important gay characters from Marvel Comics to giving us the MCU’s first lesbian kiss, Agatha All Along did...

Known for his animation work, French filmmaker Jérémy Clapin is fascinated by the parts of ourselves that life forces us to leave behind. More specifically, he’s fascinated by their absence, and what it means for someone to feel “whole” in the aftermath of a profound loss.
2019’s miraculous “I Lost My Body” told the story of a severed hand as it crawled across the suburbs of Paris in search of the man to whom it once belonged. With “Meanwhile on Earth,” his live-action debut, Clapin returns with a similarly beguiling — if much less resonant — approach to body horror, this one about a grieving 23-year-old nurse who’s told that she can reconnect with her missing brother: an astronaut presumed dead after he disappears from a mission in deep space.

Days of Our Lives will say a more permanent goodbye to the late Drake Hogestyn’s character, John Black, with upcoming death and funeral scenes that the actor approved before he passed away.
In a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, Days executive producer Ken Corday shared that John’s demise was already filmed before Hogestyn lost his real-life battle to pancreatic cancer in September. Though there’s currently no airdate for John’s death and subsequent funeral, Corday said he “wanted to make sure Drake signed off” on his character’s final storyline, “and he was totally in favor of it.

This week's episode of the Pilot TV Podcast is a real diamond — or, to be more accurate, a real Crystal. That's right folks, legendary funnyman Billy Crystal is on the show chatting to our resident comedy expert James Dyer about Apple TV+ supernatural mystery series Before, which is... well, not a comedy. But they do chat about Friends, the evolution of sitcoms, and much more in an expansive chat [1:02:20 — approx]. And as if that weren't treat enough, we also have another couple of gems with us on the pod this week in the shape of Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, the stars of Sky's new adaptation of the Frederick Forsyth's 1971 'analogue spycraft' classic novel The Day Of The Jackal. They sat down with our very own international man of mystery Boyd Hilton to discuss the show, assassins' work-life balance, six packs, and, er, Strictly Come Dancing [21:00 — 35:12 approx].

The concept of the movie cameo no longer means what it used to. Nowadays, we have entire feature films serving as a cameo delivery system, where "cameos" aren't brief appearances by very recognizable figures, but are actually entire supporting roles. Thanks to the comic book movie and the output of Marvel Studios in particular, the cameo has since become far more than the Easter egg it used to be. In a cinematic landscape where what we now call cameos can range from teaser appearances of characters to be seen in a future film to big-name actors who were merely kept out of the marketing materials, is there any room for the classic-style cameo anymore?
Fortunately for us horror nerds, along comes "Terrifier 3" to answer that question with a resounding "Yes." The latest installment in the Art the Clown saga includes all manner of cameo appearances, ranging from some actors...

Much like big American superhero comic books, there are many manga and anime that are intimidating for newcomers simply because of how long they are. Titles can be as relatively short as the 141-episode-long "Hunter x Hunter" or as long as "One Piece," which is well over 1,100 (!) episodes. What's more, unlike, say, the Spider-Man comics, you can't simply pick and choose the story arc that appeals to you and skip the rest when it comes to the likes of "One Piece" or Naruto." It'd be like watching only season 3 or 5 of "Game of Thrones" or "Lost," robbing you of important context and serialization.
And yet, that doesn't stop anime fans from recommending newcomers outright skip big chunks of the source material, whether that means ignoring the many filler episodes and arcs of "Naruto" or bypassing the entirety of the original "Dragon Ball" and starting with "Dragon Ball Z." However, that...

2004 was a notable year for television viewers. “Friends” wrapped up its 10-year run; Ken Jennings had his first winning streak on “Jeopardy!”; Illinois senator Barack Obama made a splash with a keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention; new series “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” became obsessions. And the news was constantly filled with stories from the Iraq war.
Then, on Oct. 30, a network known as the Gospel Music Channel was born. “I remember thinking ‘Wow, it’s the perfect time to have something positive and uplifting and there was probably nothing more hopeful than gospel music,” says Charles “Charley” Humbard, the founder and CEO of Up Entertainment.
Humbard is aware that a faith-based music channel might not have been the obvious choice for a new network, but he saw indicators that told him they were on the right path. “The landscape was really good at the time,” he says.

Exclusive: A new location has emerged as a leading contender to serve as backdrop for the anticipated second 9-1-1 spinoff in the works at ABC from Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear. According to sources, Hawaii is heating up as a potential setting for the offshoot, which, as Deadline reported earlier this month, has been picking up momentum after a lengthy gestational period. It is yet to be greenlighted.
During the gestational period, other places were considered to follow Los Angeles (9-1-1) and Austin (9-1-1: Lone Star), with Las Vegas at one point emerging as a favorite.
That has now shifted to America’s 50th state, we hear. Reps for ABC and studio 20th Television, which is behind the first-responder drama franchise, declined comment.

This article contains spoilers for "Agatha All Along," episode 7, "Death's Hand In Mine."
"Agatha All Along" and "WandaVision" creator/showrunner Jac Schaeffer is seemingly obsessed with time. Her debut feature, "TiMER," is a sci-fi romantic comedy set in a world where a wrist implant countdown clock lets people know when they'll meet their soul mate, completely altering how people spend their time on Earth anticipating when it's time to settle down. "WandaVision" explores the way Wanda Maximoff's Westview Anomaly manipulates an entire town's sense of time through television tropes, while Agatha Harkness gets involved just to antagonize Wanda out of pettiness and a quest for power.
Now, with "Agatha All Along," Patti Lupone's Lilia Calderu has been revealed to be experiencing her life out of sequence, and her acceptance of living on a constantly jumping timeline becomes the key to understanding her tarot test while on The Witches' Road.

Stephen King’s The Shining is all the proof you need to accept the fact that words on a page can haunt you for days. The timeless horror novel had readers sweating with dread and anticipation yet they couldn’t stop and the pages kept turning. When Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation came out, it impressed Steven Spielberg to the point where he watched it about 25 times. On the other hand, Clint Eastwood was not a fan.

For a long-running TV show, child actors are almost always a headache. Putting aside all the ethical ramifications of thrusting someone into the public eye at such a young age, there's the simple fact that kids grow and change in ways that often contradict what the series itself is going for. Sometimes the actor hits puberty and starts getting too self-conscious, or sometimes they simply hit puberty too soon (or too late) and that changes the sort of storylines the writers can do with them.
"Mad Men" lucked out: it only had two main child actors to deal with, and they struck gold with one of them. Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper, sticks around for the whole series, getting plenty of her own storylines to work with. But with the actors who played Bobby Draper, who's about three years younger than Sally, it was a different story. The first...

If you’re a fan of broadcast TV dramas, then you’re probably aware that the major networks are all about first responders these days.
A quick scan of the year’s top dramas turns up more cops and firefighters than a charity softball game in Central Park.
Throw in doctors, lawyers, lifeguards, and folks with first responder-adjacent jobs (a la Tracker’s Colter Shaw or High Potential‘s Morgan Gillroy), and pretty much every drama on network television is covered.
(Disney/Christopher Willard )
Obviously, TV’s fascination with cops, firefighters, FBI agents, etc. is nothing new.
After all, those people have very interesting jobs, which makes it easy for writers to come up with weekly adventures to enthrall audiences.
And if you’re looking for a hero in 2024, you could do a lot worse than the people who come to the rescue during emergency situations.

‘Weeds’ Alum Hunter Parrish Joins Nicole Kidman in Amazon’s Mystery Thriller ‘Scarpetta’ (Exclusive)
Hunter Parrish has joined Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in “Scarpetta,” an upcoming mystery thriller series from Blumhouse Television that has already been greenlit for two seasons by Amazon Prime Video.
The “Weeds” alum joins an ensemble that also includes Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Rosy McEwen and Jake Cannavale.
The series, an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels, hails from Blumhouse and Amazon MGM Studios. Liz Sarnoff will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
According to the logline, the show “follows Kay Scarpetta (Kidman), the chief medical examiner, as she returns to Virginia and resumes her former position with complex relationships, both personal and professional – including her sister Dorothy (Curtis), with plenty of grudges and secrets to uncover.”
Parrish will recur as the younger version of Benton Wesley, presumably in flashbacks. Benton is an FBI profiler who strikes up a romance with Kay in the books.

We’re nearing the end of the (witches’) road on “Agatha All Along,” and sadly, Episode 7 marked the official end for another member of the coven: Lilia Calderu.
In a departure from the typical format of the show, Episode 7 — now streaming on Disney+ — was told non-linearly, essentially thrusting viewers into Lilia’s (Patti LuPone) shoes. As it turns out, she’s not batty or wispy or kooky. She just doesn’t experience the flow of time like everyone else.
She’s experienced her life in snippets, living moments out of order. Her powers were particularly strong when she was a kid, but all she saw was death — who turns out to be Rio (Aubrey Plaza), this episode reveals — so she ignored her abilities until now.
Showrunner Jac Schaeffer jumped back into the director’s chair for “Death’s Hand in Mine,” and according to her, the episode was a multi-brain effort to pull off.
