Seven teams participated, with each group creating a cardboard boat out of a simple box of supplies. Hats off to the team members who brought colleagues together for a day of laughs and creativity.

We were excited to cut the ribbon at Shoreline Grove Apartments in Branford, CT, this week! This transformative redevelopment replaced the aging Parkside Village I with 67 modern homes, including 60 affordable units and permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. Designed with community input and built to Passive House standards, Shoreline Grove offers generous one- and two-bedroom apartments along with amenities like a fitness center, computer room, and resident services. We were joined by Senator Richard Blumenthal, CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno, Connecticut Housing Finance Authority CEO Nandini Natarajan, United Way of Greater New Haven President and CEO Jennifer Heath, HUD Connecticut Field Office Director Suzanne Piacentini, Elm City Communities Executive Director Karen DuBois-Walton, PhD., Branford Housing Authority former chair and Branford Affordable Housing member Robert M. Imperato, Shoreline Grove resident Dave D’Amelio, and Beacon Communities CEO Dara Kovel.

We are thrilled to be partnering with residents, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), Kalel Companies Companies, MBD COMMNUNITY HOUSING CORPORATION, and Wavecrest Management Team on a project that both brings Beacon back to its roots and expands our Empire State footprint. Our public housing redevelopment work started in the mid-1990s with HOPE VI projects in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. We are excited to continue Beacon’s commitment to preserving critical housing stock to improve the standard of living for residents and help address the state’s affordable housing crisis. The renovation of Boston Secor, Boston Road Plaza, and Middletown Plaza in the Bronx will modernize 951 apartments, enhance shared spaces, and expand services—improving the quality of life for nearly 1,600 residents.

The team at Littlebrook Apartments in Hudson, MA, hosted a cookout for residents earlier this year. They grilled hotdogs and burgers and provided salads and snacks. Residents enjoyed the pool and played games, including a massive Jenga, cornhole, ladder ball, and a giant Connect 4.
