As it becomes time to step away from Qcue, Inc., I wanted to pause to reflect upon the incredible journey I have had with the company which I shaped and shaped me over almost two decades. While I’m excited to look forward, today is about reflecting upon the past.
It’s incredible to think that I’ve spent seventeen years building Qcue into the business it’s become.
But much like when I left home for the first time at seventeen, the time has come to walk away from the defining experience of my professional life - the company that has become synonymous with myself.
When I founded Qcue, I was a 25-year-old working on my dissertation at The University of Texas at Austin; Austin was a small college town; the secondary market was taboo; and data science wasn’t a word anyone had heard.
What a different world it is today. What a different person I am today.
Over those seventeen years, I went from being the short haired, clean-shaven kid, who showed up at a ticketing conference with hand-cut business cards, to a long-haired, bearded executive at Endeavor, the largest entertainment company in the world. Along the way, I rang the Nasdaq closing bell, became the 2nd youngest recipient ever of Sports Business Journal's Forty under 40 award, gave speeches and lectures, wrote articles for and was quoted in the publications I read when I was younger, managed a company through litigation, got married, represented the live entertainment industry in front of the White House, had two children, sold a business, and built and launched the first global hospitality sales platform for the Olympic Games.
Qcue went from a startup pitch that won the Rice Business Plan Competition, to helping sports teams and entertainment organizations recapture over a half a billion dollars in profits. We changed the notion of face value. We built a product. We became profitable. We worked with every major sports league in North America. We expanded internationally. We grew a team. We were named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies in the World. We built another product. We bought a company. We sold ours.
While it’s hard to imagine the company without me or me without the company, I’m grateful to Endeavor and On Location for embracing our staff, products, and vision. I’m grateful for the opportunities given to me personally to expand my role far beyond Qcue and to everyone across the broader business who became part of my team over the last few years.
I’m especially proud of the team that we’ve built and trust them to grow upon the legacy that we’ve created. Your position within Endeavor is an opportunity to continue to grow in the center of the entertainment universe and I am looking forward to watching what comes next.
By giving me confidence that the company I built is in good hands, you have enabled me to embark upon my next adventure, Duael Track, where we are reimagining a sport that has shaped my life since my days running at Cornell University.
