Career matrices sound like a good idea on paper, but might cause confusion amongst the team. How does one manage this? Raj L., Director of Professional Services at Mimecast faced a similar dilemma with this team, and his solution was to treat the career matrix as an evolving document instead of a static one. Doing this means that individual contributors get to see what sort of skills are required of them (so they can be more effective) while also ensuring that line managers can look at changes, identify areas of support and provide them accordingly.
