Over the last 37 years, World Education, the Bantwana Initiative, and JSI have worked in #Uganda to improve learning and school retention, expand access to #HIV services, reduce the prevalence of diseases like malaria and tuberculosis, and more. Our focus is on strengthening systems to provide holistic care to families and communities, ensuring they are healthy, safe, and engaged in #education. We are excited to continue partnering with the Government of Uganda to enhance learning environments under the USAID Targeting the Learning Crisis (TLC) activity. It’s true - 54% of adults in the U.S. struggle with foundational literacy. Nearly 1 in 5 adults (~43 million) read below the adult equivalent of a third-grade level, and less than 10% are getting the literacy support they need.📚 Investing in #AdultLiteracy is more important than ever. Foundational literacy is a gateway to multiple literacies – civic, digital, financial, health, information – which all impact social and economic mobility. Increasing adult literacy could boost the annual GDP by $2.2 trillion.💰 What can we do about it? Support employers, nonprofit organizations, and health and education programs to teach multiple literacies in ways that work for learners. What can you do about it? #Digitaleducation initiatives for both students and educators require coordination, buy-in, and commitment to sustainability. Under the second phase of the UNICEF Digital Education program, we're bringing stakeholders together to build a strong foundation for growing the digital continuous professional development platform for educators. We're establishing a governance group of representatives from Ministry of Education departments and developing a governance strategy and capacity strengthening plan. https://brnw.ch/21wOmzo UNICEF Cambodia Rachel Riggs

We're excited to be part of this initiative to develop and pilot new AI-enabled learning modes with adult #ESOL teachers and their students in Houston and California! Integrated education and training (IET) programs combine literacy and numeracy instruction with job training to help connect learners to in-demand careers. Education programs can tap into regional labor market and support learners' career interests by developing regional #IET programs, solidifying partnerships between education programs and creating relationships between learners and employers. Solutions for reaching and treating individuals living with HIV must include family- and community-based approaches. Skilled community case workers extend the arm of the health clinic into the community. They meet people living with HIV and their caregivers in the home, monitor HIV status and treatment, and help them access holistic care. They go beyond delivering medical treatment and help people confront stigma and disclose their status, and provide encouragement to build resilience. Strengthening the #SocialServiceWorkforce is crucial for preventing and responding to #HIV: https://brnw.ch/21wOgGT

We're expanding our work to provide accessible continuous professional development (CPD) for educators in #Cambodia under phase two of the UNICEF Digital Education program with funding from the Capacity Development Partnership Fund Phase III! We will work with the Government of Cambodia to grow and solidify the long-term sustainability of the digital CPD platform that provides training for educators on subject-specific instruction skills and methodologies. This builds on our efforts in the first phase to assess existing digital learning interventions through a national landscape scan, which informed the development of the platform. https://brnw.ch/21wOeq7

The feature article of The Lancet HIV’s November issue shines a spotlight on injectable PrEP coming to Africa, including JSI’s support implementing CAB-LA in #Zambia alongside the Ministry of Health. 💡 We found that integrating CAB-LA with existing HIV prevention options in primary health care settings expands access and choice. Not only are people now using #PrEP for the first time because #CABLA suits their needs, but enrollment in oral PrEP is also higher in JSI-supported sites. Read more about some of the early lessons from CAB-LA implementation: https://lnkd.in/edCkWxY6 #PHC #HIVprevention #GlobalHealth
