Molloy University was named the Best University in the Long Island Choice Awards. Molloy also picked up two other major honors, for Best President and Best Continuing Education program. The Long Island Choice Awards were created by Herald Community Newspapers and PSEG Long Island. More than 200,000 votes were tabulated to determine the winners. By examining their careers, we thought, we could learn more about our future. We learned much more in producing our “Power 25 Education” special section. We were impressed by the amazing accomplishments achieved by these educators but also by their incredible ability to pivot in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of our “Power 25” educators are the very top of their institutions who, in mid-semester, were suddenly charged with keeping thousands of students and faculty members safe. In just a matter of days, these Long Island leaders found themselves responding to a global event unheard of in modern times. They responded quickly, expertly and with grace under fire. Awarded the first-ever Presidential Medal of Excellence for outstanding achievements as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Oakland University from 2013-2020.

The purpose of the Arts Achievement Awards, presented by Wayne State University’s College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, is to recognize outstanding alumni and former students of Wayne State University for their dedication to and advocacy for the arts and communication, as well as achievements in their fields.

James Lentini's original composition "Westward Voyage" was selected as the winning piece by the competition jury for the composition category. Westward Voyage was commissioned by William Kanengiser of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. The prize included a cash award, publication by EMEC publishers (Spain), and was included as required repertoire for performers in the semi-final round of the Segovia guitar competition in 2003.
