Uncle Sam is an SMB's best friend. Of course, the government taxes all businesses, but it also offers countless opportunities for SMBs through tax credits, grants, contracts, and partnerships. Our next couple of posts will cover some of the best ways SMBs can take advantage of government contracts (and how you can acquire those businesses). Let's talk about schools first. Here are some key facts about public school district spending: ➡ Schools districts (especially large, public ones) have programs to support Small Business Enterprise (SBE) procurement. For example, Los Angeles' Unified Public School district allocates 25% of its multi-billion dollar fund just for SBE contracting. ➡ On top of that, some school districts heavily support Minority and Women-Owned Small Business Enterprises (MWBEs). In 2023, New York Public School Districts unveiled a policy which requires 30% of the entire $10 billion district contracting budget to go to MWBE firms. ➡ The biggest recipients of SBE funding are, by industry: Construction and Infrastructure Maintenance, Information Technology, and Educational Supplies and Programs.
