🔌⚡Shore-side electrification work has begun in Le Havre, France. GIP Le Havre Croisières starts work on three new cruise terminals at Le Havre. The French port is aiming to complete the facilities, which will offer shore power capabilities and use solar panels, by 2026. 💡 Plugging into shoreside electricity allows ship engines to be switched off, reducing emissions by up to 98%, depending on the mix of energy sources, while a ship is in port. As part of the EU’s Fit for 55 programme, all main ports in the European Union will have to use shoreside electricity by 2030. A timeless duo: Fort Carée and Port Vauban Together, they tell a story of defense, commerce, and the strategic importance of Antibes throughout the centuries. Perched on the Saint-Roch peninsula, Fort Carrée stands as a proud sentinel overlooking Antibes and the Mediterranean Sea. Constructed in the 16th century under the orders of King Henry II of France, the fort was part of a broader effort to strengthen coastal defenses against foreign invaders, particularly from Spain and the Ottoman Empire. Designed by the renowned military engineer, Henri de Mandon, and later modified by the famous architect Vauban, the fort is a textbook example of star-shaped military architecture. This design, with its four bastions, allowed for optimal defense against artillery attacks and provided a strategic vantage point to observe incoming threats from the sea. Just below Fort Carrée lies Port Vauban, one of the largest and most prestigious marinas in the Mediterranean. Named after the military engineer Vauban, who also influenced the fort’s design, Port Vauban has a history that stretches back to ancient times when Antibes, then known as Antipolis, was a thriving Greek trading post. Over the centuries, the port has evolved from a military harbor into a bustling commercial port and, most recently, into a modern marina catering to the world's most luxurious yachts. It boasts over 1,500 berths, including the famous "Quai des Milliardaires", where some of the largest and most extravagant yachts in the world are docked. MAOC (N) supports French operation in Caribbean – 1255 Kg of cocaine seized 🚨 In the last week, the French forces stationed in the Caribbean conducted a maritime operation resulting in the interception of a sailing vessel located approximately 600nm NE of Martinique. ⛵ Upon boarding the target, the French forces in the Caribbean / Forces armées aux Antilles were able to find several bales scattered inside the vessel, totalling 1255 Kg of cocaine. The prompt intervention of the French navy made it possible to seize this significant quantity of cocaine, which otherwise would have been transferred to another vessel before reaching its final destination in Europe. 🤝 Besides the intervention of the French forces in the Caribbean, this international operation was made possible through extensive exchange of information carried out within the scope of MAOC-N, involving the Direction nationale du renseignement et des enquêtes douanières (DNRED), the French anti-drugs office (OFAST), the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) and the US Drug Enforcement Administration. 📈 So far this year, the MAOC-N partner countries were able to seize over 40 tonnes of cocaine in operations supported by the Centre.

#MarineExploration 🌊 | Discover the secrets of Polynesia's lagoons as we look behind the scenes of the RESOLAG network! 🏝️ French Polynesia, a treasure-trove of 15,000 km² of lagoons, is home to a unique observation network. Set up in 2017 by the Marine Resources Department, RESOLAG has been supported since 2019 by the PROTEGE project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the SPC.
