On the heels of the big Suno fundraise announcement today, I thought it would be timely to share this discussion around how AI will impact creative industries and talent from our recent panel at the Milken Institute Global Conference. As discussed, it is clear that Gen AI tools will greatly increase the number of people who experiment with creating content, most of whom could never have otherwise created this content and none of whom currently create this content professionally or commercially. This will 1,000,000x the amount of content produced and available for consumption. That said, I believe that general consumers will continue to gravitate toward the highest quality content. This goes for everything from written content, to music, to animation, film, and beyond. The idea that Suno song creation is replacing general music fans' time spent listening to music on Spotify or other DSPs is asinine. That said, it is clearly a fun tool to experiment with, allowing thousands of people who never could have otherwise created a song to create a song - I've used it quite a bit to prompt a handful of tech house kpop songs about living in Berlin. It will be interesting to see how much of their funding goes toward legal bills or more likely licensing the music which is currently being used to train their model. At Patron we’re most interested in companies looking to leverage Gen AI technologies to reshape how professional content creators build a business around their creative talent and output. We believe strongly that this represents a huge opportunity to turn static media formats into more interactive and replayable experiences, and to completely change how creative talent producing written content, webtoons/comics, songs, animation, video, and games can better earn a living off of their creative output. #MIGlobal #GenAI

Intriguing news from #generativeAI startup ProRata.ai, who just signed licensing collaborations with The Financial Times, Axel Springer, The Atlantic, Fortune, and Universal Music Group. The agreements are designed to create fair revenue sharing with content owners. ProRata.ai is debuting a subscription AI chatbot this fall; this tech should help evenly split revenues with content partners. Its algorithm attributes outputs to content owners, ensuring fair compensation based on the novelty and impact of their work. This aligns with what we believe at Canva – creators deserve to benefit from AI. So, it’s exciting and intriguing to see a new approach emerge on this front. A pay-per-click revenue model for #ArtificialIntelligence chatbots? 👇 This Sara Fischer scoop is really interesting. I have talked to a few publishers recently who are leery of #AI deals, seeing them as one-off revenue pops that are neither recurring nor fair for what they will deliver long-term. But ProRata.ai's business model sounds different. Will "this type of attribution system can pave the way for publishers to demand fair value for their work from any generative AI company?" No startup's revenue model survives contact with the market. Everything changes and evolves. But it's crucial to experiment - both with AI content deals and building internal AI capabilities. Content providers have more value than they think. They need a hybrid of content deals with big AI companies and build products of their own.
NEW: Financial Times, Axel Springer. The Atlantic, Fortune and Universal Music Group have all struck deals to license their content to new AI startup called ProRata.ai (not affiliated w Dan Primack newsletter) —The firm, which raised $25M, claims it can attribute & share $ w content owners from subscriptions to its AI chatbot —My take: I think this is probably how AI deals will shake out long-term — revenue share agreements with publishers based on some sort of modeling that can attribute their value to chatbot outputs. But Big AI companies adopting something like this in the short-term feels unlikely. Axios

✊ At Axel Springer, we've long advocated for respecting intellectual property and compensating content owners for their work. 👎 But in the AI age, many emerging GenAI models use content without proper attribution or compensation, potentially undermining creators and spreading misinformation. ⚡ Today, we're excited to announce our partnership with ProRata.ai, a new content attribution technology developed by Idealab and Bill Gross. ProRata enables generative AI platforms to fairly attribute and compensate content owners on a fractional basis. 💫 ProRata analyzes AI output, measures the value of contributing content, and calculates proportional compensation. This enables fair attribution and compensation to content owners on a fractional, per-use basis - a necessity in generative AI where responses are created from multiple sources. 💪 We're proud to join forces with partners like The Atlantic, Financial Times, Fortune and Universal Music Group. We hope our early participation will help create a fairer system where creators are compensated, consumers receive reliable information, and AI companies innovate responsibly. 🙌 Big thanks to Christian Baesler, Rich Kennedy, Ansgar Schoenborn, and Nicholas Pacilio for their collaboration on this! 👊 Excited to see where this leads!

I think this news highlights a similar question for other organizations/companies that primarily deal in information and education (like nonprofit associations). They are in the same boat as these media companies - why go to an association's website when you can go to your favorite AI chatbot and get relatively helpful answers? Distinct perspectives and original research will get you far, but as expertise becomes commoditized (like so much of reporting has), associations are going to have to think hard about when to go it alone and when it might be prudent to form relationships with AI companies that will license your content and attribute it to you. That choice - when, what, and how - will be specific to the organization. It's a strategic choice to dilute your member value proposition but potentially increase your reach.

Synthesia is going crazy. This London-based AI video-generation platform just hit £50m in revenue. 456% user growth YoY. The founding vision in 2017 (before the OpenAI-induced frenzy), was to make it easy to generate low-cost videos with AI. The founding team of researchers built their own proprietary software to make it happen. Originally they targeted content creators and aspiring Hollywood film producers. They’ve also found sticky enterprise use-cases for corporate comms, training, marketing, and even direct sales. Now the tool can generate short videos in 1 click. The startup adopted an educational, content based growth strategy. This has encouraged users to keep coming back to learn more about how to maximise the value of the product. This has helped Zoom reduce the time taken to create instructional videos by 90%. It’s also helped Zerox reduce video creation costs by 50%. Used by half of the US’ Fortune 100 companies, it’s an exciting time for the newly-crowned unicorn. Thanks to Dealroom for the insights https://lnkd.in/dEtdhYDh

In 2022, Vibhor Saran founded Fourie (by SyncSense) Studio, a transformative generative AI platform created by SyncSense. Named after the mathematician Joseph Fourier, Fourie Studio aims to revolutionize how content is localized across the globe. The platform helps businesses dub, subtitle, and narrate content in multiple languages, significantly expanding their reach and impact. Fourie Studio excels in preserving the original emotion, tone, and context of source material, ensuring localized content resonates well with diverse audiences. Supporting over 30 global languages and offering more than 500 voices, the platform is invaluable for industries such as education, media, entertainment, sports, and commerce. The inspiration for Fourie Studio came from the need to democratize content access. During the Olympic livestream events, the lack of localized content highlighted a significant gap in connecting digital content with regional audiences. This realization led to the creation of Fourie Studio. Using advanced AI technologies, Fourie Studio makes content transformation fast and cost-effective, delivering results in one-tenth of the time and at one-fifth of the cost compared to traditional methods. This innovation empowers businesses to reach global audiences without compromising quality or incurring prohibitive costs. At Fourie Studio, we are committed to changing the way content is localized and consumed globally. Our mission is to make engaging, high-quality content accessible to everyone, regardless of language or location. We believe in the power of technology to bridge cultural gaps and bring the world closer together. #FourieStudio #ContentCreation #AI #Localization #GlobalReach #InnovativeTech #SyncSense #DigitalTransformation #ContentMarketing #Entrepreneurship #StartupJourney #TechInnovation

https://lnkd.in/eEKHvzeY Big platforms are better-positioned to monetize AI, but smaller ones can still win in some use cases. Text-to-voice provider ElevenLabs is raising at a valuation as high as $3bn. They have, strategically or not, found a use case where economics are very favorable: AI-generated audio will never be the core product, though it might be a useful labor-saving tool for creating video game dialogue or an audio version of a newsletter. So it's not the main component of the cost when it's part of a product, but it is a component that makes the economics better for whoever produces it. That's a good way to make a product structurally low-churn. And, since hype correlates with churn, that means their metrics will look far better than peers.
Exclusive: Investors are scrambling to get into Eleven Labs, which may soon be valued at $3 billion
