"What if?" It's not just a useful exercise, it's a window into the infinite possible paths events may lead. One of the things that made the Marvel Entertainment series so captivating was that it took readers through that window to explore "what might have been" and "what might yet come to be." What if Spider-Man had kept his six arms? What if Magneto became a force for good? What if Captain America were revived today? The fact that those old comics translated so well to modern audiences is telling "What if?" is a powerful tool for scenario planning, for exploring all of the possible contingencies one might face. The further you open that window, the clearer your vision of the future becomes.

A couple of interesting things have happened in the world of public defense nationwide recently: First, one of the cornerstone documents of public defense standards, The American Bar Association's Ten Principles of a Public Defense Delivery System, was released in August. Second, the RAND Corporation, in cooperation with the ABA, released a new National Public Defense Workload Study indicating what we all know - Public Defenders are over-worked to an extreme extent. I'll link in a new post.

Coast Guard Auxiliary has never used the correct equipment or procedures. Aux members are officers (no commission) only, not enlisted. The rank designates a position within the organization but is still an officer rank. Officers do not perform color guard duties, right Public Health? Right. You just conveniently ignore that. Here, we have ❌National has fringe. ❌National has TWO gold-colored cords and tassels. Cord and tasselser? It should have ONE red, white, and blue cord and tassels. ❌That's a Aux ensign (flag) and not a color. It's an #OutsideFlag. Flags are not authorized for color guard, only colors. ⭐Posting from behind the stands is sometimes required and when you do, the color is not pulled tightly at waist level with the material folded to the front. Hands are better at shoulder level and shoulder width apart. ❌Wrong staffs. 👉Wrong finials, unless you are posting for an official who rates a 19-gun salute or higher. ❌Staffs are not the same length. ❌Org is being dressed to audience's left, wrong direction. ❌Guard right hands should be pointing downward at an approximate 45-degree angle, not forward. ❌No colors harnesses. 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! Hopefully, this will bring an end to another uncomfortable sideshow in the American political circus. Ringling Brothers analogies aside, this has been an unnecessary distraction from the outset, something that generated far too much negative attention when there are more important issues with which to contend. If you serve any length of time in the ranks of the military - especially if you climb the ladder to more senior levels - you know the rules. You understand the criteria for awards, decorations, and badges. There's a reason why I wear a Combat Action Badge (CAB) and not a Combat Infantry Badge (I wasn't an infantryman) or a Combat Medical Badge (I wasn't in a medical specialty). If I decide that I need to wear a CIB to gain a little street cred on Bingo Night at the VFW, then I shouldn't be upset if someone questions me for it. This phenomenon isn't anything new, and it isn't at all limited to the profession of arms. People lie about academic credentials, work experience, financial status, and any number of other things. The "vultures" referred to in this article are only trying to keep people honest. And, to be fair, veterans aren't exactly accepting of other veterans who do this... so the victim act doesn't play well here.
