AI agents could soon become indistinguishable from humans online. Could “personhood credentials” protect people against digital imposters? In a new white paper, researchers from MIT, OpenAI, Microsoft, and other tech companies and academic institutions propose the use of a verification technique that enables someone to prove they are a real human online, while preserving their privacy. https://lnkd.in/dna-gFDj

This news from 16 October sat in my browser tabs for a week (we’ve all been there 😅). After reading through the analysis, I think this development is worth more attention from those in AI governance and compliance. ETH Zurich, INSAIT, and LatticeFlow have introduced the "LLM Checker," a tool designed to help companies align their AI models with the EU AI Act. It provides a structured approach by translating the Act’s high-level principles into measurable technical benchmarks, focusing on areas like cybersecurity, privacy, and environmental impact. Interestingly, while models from companies like OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic performed well in some aspects, they showed significant gaps in areas such as discrimination and cybersecurity. This highlights the challenge of ensuring both high performance and compliance with regulations. As a European Commission spokesperson noted, this initiative represents "a first step in translating the EU AI Act into technical requirements, helping AI model providers implement the AI Act." I’d be interested to hear what others think. #AIGovernance #EUAIAct #AICompliance #AIPolicy #FoundationModels

“AI companies are currently collecting more of our sensitive data than ever before, and whether sanctioned or not, AI tools are creeping into our lives and being used more and more each day." Last week, OmniIndex CEO Simon Bain sat down with TechRound to discuss where all the data that powering AI tools like ChatGPT really comes from, the environmental and monetary cost of these models and how users can protect their digital privacy.
