Today I presented my first paper at #ASEEannual. This paper is based on the initial work for my #KEEN Engineering Unleashed Fellowship and the I²lab this year!

Watch here: https://lnkd.in/e9WT2t-S Christina's presentation covered some of the Academy's interventions to address the challenges in Engineering at company level, university level and internally, as well as some examples of positive interventions. ◾ Culture+ for small and emerging companies, an EDI platform to build everyday habits to create inclusive cultures. ◾ GEEP – Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme which supports UK engineering graduates from diverse background and under-represented groups into employment. ◾ Amazon Future Engineer Bursary programme supports women student from low-income households studying computer sciences or engineering related courses. ◾ Diversity Impact Programme to inspire change in university engineering departments for students from diverse backgrounds. Embedding D&I across the Academy e.g. ◾ One Action Plan to look at the applicant journey through the fellowship programme to look at systemic barriers at the different stages. ◾ Embed and Share Good Practice. ◾ Measure, monitor and evaluate. ◾ Research Fellowship annual call implemented enhanced positive action measures to make applicant pool more diverse. Limit to 2 applications from Universities plus 2 from women, disabled and/or Black ethnic groups, initial indicators of progress, but evolving and limited data. ◾ Implemented Access mentoring which aims to provide additional support from under-represented groups applying to Academy research grant schemes. #EDI #STEM

On Friday, June 14, Olin College President Gilda Barabino will deliver the Mellor Lectureship keynote address at the inaugural summit of HBCU Engineering Deans, hosted by University of Michigan College of Engineering on the University of Michigan campus. Titled "Forging Futures Together by Strengthening Collaborations," this milestone event aims to forge a stronger link between premiere HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and Big 10+ engineering institutions – pooling diverse perspectives, encouraging innovation, and unlocking the vast potential of an integrated engineering academy. In her address, President Barabino will talk about how we can change the face and future of #engineeringeducation and #research to reflect a scientific enterprise that includes everyone, including historically marginalized groups. She will also highlight the need and the vision to look upon an array of smaller institutions, conferences, and knowledge-shares, as key places from which this transformation can and is already occurring. "There are important lessons that we can all learn from #HBCUs and their cultures of high support and high expectations. To do this, we must see conferences and engagements like this summit as part of a constellation model, not a hub-and-spoke model. Too often, we observe that larger institutions like the Big 10+ see themselves as the hub from which spokes of knowledge arrive at smaller institutions, including HBCUs. Although we have much to gain by learning from Big 10 administrations, they have just as much to learn from us." https://lnkd.in/e_uKQgZD

"I had the opportunity to participate in the 'Science and Technology Capacity Building for Industrial Needs' program at M.A.M School of Engineering. This initiative focused on enhancing the understanding of how scientific advancements and technological innovations can be applied to meet industrial demands. It was an enriching experience that provided valuable insights into the latest trends and best practices in the industry. Looking forward to applying these learnings in future projects!"

#TechyThursday: FRA supported Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech), in collaboration with Pennsylvania State University Altoona (Penn State Altoona) and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), to establish a Tracks to the Future: Railroad Transportation and Engineering summer program for high school students.  The report describes Phase 1 of this program, which was offered in both a traditional, week-long, on-campus program and a hybrid (virtual and in person) version of the program at three different universities. As I get closer to being up-to-date, I want to reflect on a #challenging step in my studies. #catchup Organised by Honours Programme Delft, the Honours Programme Bachelor focuses on interdisciplinary skills, a core value for a well-rounded engineer. With only 16 Honours Bachelor's in the Aerospace Engineering faculty, this diploma has proven to be exigent, because of the high selectivity requirements and the work that it entailed, making my nominal work-schedule be of 52h/week over one semester. By taking part in this programme, I have followed the curses of "Leadership in a Complex World" and "Critical Thinking". I consider these to have brought me an invaluable perception on how to work on complex projects, analyse arguments and ideas, and take the (always necessary) step back, when needed. The last constituent of this programme was a research project. During the production of this project, I was faced with all kinds of obstacles and changes of scope. Nevertheless, supervised by Prof. Dr. Ir. Jacco Hoekstra, I successfully finished my Honours Programme Bachelor on August 28th, 2023; by submitting an individual research project, performed in the field of simulation and analysis. I studied airports' taxiway usage, by studying OpenSky Network's ADSB data, and developed a preliminary auto-taxi function for #BlueSky, contributing to an #opensource community. #TUdelft #criticalthinking #leadership #interdisciplinary #honours
